For Sharon Smith;

When I read your journal this morning I broke down in tears. I am so sorry for your loss. I will always remember Buster. So very sorry, Sharon. RIP Buster.

Went to the Keweenaw yesterday. The colors were nice but they had peaked last week. DNRE was right. A strange fall, the colors didn't last long this year.

Sharon, I too just read your journal. I am so sorry for you. I know how hard it is to lose such a special friend! We lost our Sneakers after 16 years to the same kind of illness. Just know he is no longer in any pain. Our hearts go out to you and Jasmine!

By Cindy Barga (Hoosiergirl) on Saturday, October 8, 2011 - 10:00 am:

My condolences too, Sharon. I cried too. I have two kitties of my own, and I love them very much. Our oldest guy reminds me of Buster, as he loves to be brushed everyday until you think your arm is going to fall off. RIP Buster. Maybe you could get Jasmine a new little friend someday in the future.

Sharon, I also read your journal this morning. Anyone who ever had to put their pet to sleep feels your pain. Even though you know it's the right thing to do, it hurts very much. I'm so sorry for your loss.

By sometimesyooper (Nancyd) on Saturday, October 8, 2011 - 10:14 am:

Sharon,
I'm sorry too. I think we could all see it coming but when it comes it's still so hard. I feel for Jasmine. Animals have a strong bond with each other. There is comfort that Buster had you at the end, to help ease his way.

With all the horses and dogs in my family, I am always reminded, Where there's Life, There is Death. And times it certainly is never easy.

Posted a picture on my profile of Copper Harbor in memory of Buster, a very special cat and for Sharon Smith, a very special person.

Hard to believe but we have the a/c on in Ondanoggin. It's hot and I know it's global warming. Don't tell me this happened a hundred years ago. One hundred years ago we didn't have all of this pollution.

By Dr. Nat (Drnat) on Saturday, October 8, 2011 - 06:27 pm:

Indian Summer is nothing new to the Upper Peninsula or Upper Midwest. I am unable to get long-term weather records for Ontonagon, but I do have ones for Duluth, a city on Lake Superior that has records dating back to the 1800s. I checked the October records and found an interesting thing. A number of record highs were set in 1901 and 1903, showing that hot autumn days did occur a hundred years ago and are nothing new.

By Janie T. (Bobbysgirl) on Saturday, October 8, 2011 - 06:57 pm:

Dr Nat, I know all too well Duluth having above normal warm temps this time of the year. We have had to buy T-shirts while up there on vacation when all we packed was sweatshirts!

Funny; I always thought warm weather in the fall was just called Indian Summer.....

Way to go, Mikie!!

What a wonderful day we had UP here today. We saw some very strange sites for October. There were people out on the beach in Eagle Harbor in swimsuits trying to get a suntan. There were people picnicking at Brunette Park, at Esrey Park, at Cat Harbor, and at Great Sand Bay. AND there were people walking in the water, picking rocks, and just plain old enjoying temps in the 80's. It was awesome. The colors were great to look at and we got some great pictures of both the colors and the lake. It was a day to remember. Then we met with a couple of friends at my mom's place. Laurie B came to visit, and Liz from Idaho came over. We hadn't seen her in 3 years so it was a treat for us.

Lake Linden won their homecoming game today. We were sitting out on my mom's porch when the cannon went off, so we knew they won. Michigan just beat Northwestern after a slow start, but it's not looking good for the Tigers. So, we're now watching the Red Wings. The Tigers are in a rain delay folks, we didn't give up on them.

Have a wonderful rest of the weekend everybody.

Nothing new about high temperatures in September/October in Ontonagon area. We usually always have a period of hot temps after Labor Day. Just Indian Summer. We also had our a/c on because it was humid and the beautiful strong breeze was quite warm. But I know it won't last too much longer :) If it's global warming up here, then it is cyclical as we really have a lot less pollution than other places.

I kinda' knew better than to take our air conditioner out. It was very warm and humid.
