Thankful for beautiful sunsets    ...scroll down to share comments

By
Mary Drew at Pasty Central (Mdrew) on Thursday, November 22, 2012 - 07:29 am:

When Sharon Smith sent in this beautiful sunset over Copper Harbor, I knew what day I was going to use it for, immediately. I thought it would be a great photo for Thanksgiving day, to help everyone start out the morning with a peaceful scene, before all the hustle of the holiday begins. We, as Americans, have so much to be thankful for, beginning with our military personnel, especially those that are away from home and not able to spend time in thanksgiving with their family. Without these brave men and women, we wouldn't have many of the freedoms that we are blessed with each day.

No matter what time of the day it is when you view Sharon's outstanding sunset, pause in your busyness and reflect on what you're thankful for on this Thanksgiving Day, 2012. Feel free to tell us if you'd like, maybe it will remind others of the simple things we need to be appreciative of, too.

Happy Thanksgiving, from all of us here at Pasty Central!

Sharon, Your photo is splendid and offers so much peace.

I am thankful for all the simple blessings! Such as my eyesight to enjoy all that nature offers, for the ability to walk, a healthy body, family and friends, my freedom, a warm home, wonderful food and I could go on and on and on....like pasty.com, the internet, being born in the great U.P. .................... HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO ALL..HAPPY HEALTHY DAYS TO ALL OF YOU AS WELL.

Thank you, Mary and Sharon, for this perfectly beautiful picture of peace and calm on this Thanksgiving Day! May all the Pasty Friends have a blessed Thanksgiving! :-)

I too am thankful for the simple blessings that money can't buy: for "pinky" sunsets and sunrises, for the songs of the chickadees and cardinals and robins in our yard, for the smells of pine trees and tomato stems and camp fires, for the sight of a flat rock skipping across a lake and for sunshine sparkles on the water in the morning, for ferns and lilies of the valley and wild violets, for wild blueberries and sugarplums ... for precious memories, for hugs from my family and friends, for the sweet voice of my grandaughter on the telephone ... For these and all the other blessings you have provided, thank you dear Lord! :-)

By Capt. Paul (Eclogite) on Thursday, November 22, 2012 - 01:01 pm:

Happy Thanksgiving to all in PastyLand this fine day!!

The Dr. and I are all alone this year, so we bought a little turkey breast and smaller amounts of the associated goodies one has with turkey. I figure since I've dropped a significant amount of weight the past year, I don't want to pile it all back on....

By Alex "UP-Goldwinger" (Alex) on Thursday, November 22, 2012 - 01:12 pm:

You're not alone Capt. & Dr. Nat...Happy T-Day!
And it is a fine day, mid 50s and sunny in SE-MI.

Happy Thanksgiving to all from the West Coast!

By Waveaction (Lakelover) on Thursday, November 22, 2012 - 03:50 pm:

Thank you Sharon for a beautiful picture on this Thanksgiving Day. I read your journal everyday.

By Al Harjala (Alsocal) on Thursday, November 22, 2012 - 04:45 pm:

Similar to Ozzie, 44 yrs ago my brother & I aboard the USS Long Beach CG(N)9 spent Thanksgiving out-running a typhoon on the Philippine Sea, enroute to VietNam (1st cruise), had 30 Deg. rolls with dinner.

By jbuck (Jbuck) on Thursday, November 22, 2012 - 04:48 pm:

Ah, even this Wildcat is there with you in spirit,
Capt Paul & Dr Nat!

May everyone's Thanksgiving be blessed with the
knowledge of the abundance we have in America, and
Who that abundance comes from. And if you have
spent the day apart from family and friends, as we
have also, let it remind us of those who we cherish.
Until we meet again.....

By sometimesyooper (Nancyd) on Thursday, November 22, 2012 - 05:35 pm:

Happy Thanksgiving to Yoopers near and far. What a wonderful world!

By jbuck (Jbuck) on Thursday, November 22, 2012 - 07:35 pm:

The veterans who have mentioned their Thanksgiving
dinners remind me once again to thank them for their
service in protecting America. We are thankful for
you!

And i think back to WWII and wonder what kind of
Thanksgiving dinner my Dad 'enjoyed' in Germany in
1944. He had been sent to the 'quiet sector' which
would shortly erupt into the Battle of the Bulge.

By Just me (Jaby) on Thursday, November 22, 2012 - 10:04 pm:

What a perfectly lovely picture for Thanksgiving Day!

By Shirley Waggoner (Shirlohio) on Friday, November 23, 2012 - 08:25 am:

God bless your Dad, jbuck, for his service! Sure hope he survived that terrible Battle.

By Thomas Baird (Thomas) on Friday, November 23, 2012 - 01:03 pm:

Since Thanksgiving occurred on November 22 this year, I thought people might be interested in reading President Kennedy's final Thanksgiving Proclamation he gave in 1963 (you'll have to scroll down the page a ways):

By Shirley Waggoner (Shirlohio) on Friday, November 23, 2012 - 03:20 pm:

That's very touching, Thomas, thank you for posting it. I believe JFK really loved this country....after all, he fought for it. He got my vote way back then.

By Thomas Baird (Thomas) on Friday, November 23, 2012 - 05:37 pm:

Shirley, I'm pretty convinced Kennedy would have been a 2-term President.

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Friday, November 23, 2012 - 07:41 pm:

He had my vote, also. I loved him and I still eat up everything I can about him. Also loved RFK. I was so terribly sad when he got shot. I often wonder how our country would be today if none of that had happened. I'm pretty sure it would be a better place :-(

By Thomas Baird (Thomas) on Friday, November 15, 2013 - 04:14 pm:

The link to President Kennedy's 1963 Thanksgiving Proclamation
has changed, so here's a different link to it.
