We have our first real measurable snow of the year here today. We have about 5 inches of heavy wet stuff here in Midland, where the schools are on a 2-hour delay. We're just on the western and northern edge of the storm. Everything east and south of us is closed because of the bad roads. Even a WNEM TV5 satellite truck got stuck this morning and had to call a tow truck when they were out for their morning show. Many vehicles are off the roads, you get the picture. It is a winter wonderland, though, suitable for a Christmas card!

Oh how I enjoy seeing these pasty subrises and sunsets! Even on gloomy/overcast days, its grand to know that somewhere not too far away the faithful sun is designing a scene for us. I never have seen a "unpleasant" show of sky. Actually stormy skies can be most impressive. One of the best joys of working 3rd shift was seeing the sunrises most people didn't catch. Thanks guys for bringing us such glimpes of beauty and how fitting for these occasions.

So very excited!! I have ordered Pasties today!! I can't wait until next week to get them!! YUMMMMMMMM

I agree with you, Kay, even 'stormy' skies have their own beauty, even when they're threatening! Once in ND, my husband stood at the 'open' front door and made photos of lightning! Of course it was several miles from us....which is the norm in North Dakota!;)

I just have to say Thank You, Pasty Cam for adding another cam to the site - Sunset Bay. Aaah, to see the lake - what a beautiful sight!! Can't get enough cams around the Keweenaw.

RD: The locks at Sault St. Marie usually close around mid-January depending on weather and ice conditions although shipping on the lower lakes may continue beyond that time.

Today's question posed another question. Are they freighters or are they lakers? I call them freighters and am posting a poem for the brave that have traveled the Great Lakes.
