Towns and villages all across the U.P. are holding activities to get everyone into the spirit of Christmas, and Calumet is no exception. They recently had horse drawn wagon rides through the downtown streets and Lindsay White was there with her kiddos to take part. Her little man, Reese is waiting patiently for Mom to get done taking a picture of him with the horses, so they could get on with the day's activities, which also included a visit to Santa. Lindsay said her daughter, Maija was a bit too shy for Santa's lap this year, so no picture of her, but she was there just the same. Guess she'll just have to write a letter and send it to Santa to let him know what she'd like him to bring her this year. :->

Exciting time! Are those draft horses? They don't look large enough. Brrr...looks like Reese forgot his scarf, I bet his little neck was cold.:-Z

By Rowdy (Roudymi) on Wednesday, December 15, 2010 - 10:48 am:

Ya, being as they are smaller, they're Bud Light draft horses.

Please remember that voting is still open for the Copper Harbor Ambulance Barn:

Now that snowmobile season is upon us, the reasons we need this facility become even more obvious. Please continue to vote!

Easy there Tom.

This website was down for a short time Wednesday morning, and Tom's message got caught in a revolving door :o)

By Michael Du Long (Mikie) on Wednesday, December 15, 2010 - 01:01 pm:

My dad ussed to sponser Santa's radio program in the forties. So my letter was always read by Santa, and promises were made and sometimes were not kept. So the next year I wrote to Santa and expressed my disapointment in his shody work the year before. I always thought he lived in Calumet, since that is where the radio program came from. I still believe in Santa.

Shirley, yes they are draft horses, Belgium's. Known for their very sweet, gentle docile way of temperament.

By Richard J. (Dick_fl) on Wednesday, December 15, 2010 - 04:23 pm:

I thought they might be "Miller Lite's" not Bud Lights as there is a Miller tie to the Copper Country. ;-)

Christmas time looks great even in Keweenaw country.

By Shirley Waggoner (Shirlohio) on Wednesday, December 15, 2010 - 05:59 pm:

Thanks, Janie T., one of my uncles had a pair of drafts when I was a small tot, I guess that's why they seemed so much larger then.:) Rowdy, I like your answer too! ;) And apparently so did Tom, or maybe he's already into the Christmas spirit(s) :D

By Lester Dukart (Les) on Thursday, December 16, 2010 - 05:54 am:

Hi Everybody, they are "Old Milwaukee" draft horses. They are Belgium Drafts their names are Mike and Ike, they weigh between 1700 and 2000 lbs a piece. They belong to the Lazy K Ranch.
