April has swiftly come to an end, which signals our long-standing tradition here at Pasty Central, of recalling those friends and loved ones that have passed on before us. Today we remember:

Francis "Frank" Bates
Rod Deline
Fr. Marian Douglas O.F.M.
Richard E. Honrath, Jr.
Herman LaBonte
Paul Toutant
The servicemen and women who've given their all

Feel free to add the names of folks you'd like to honor here on these pages. Special thanks to Donna MacIntosh, for the beautiful sunrise photo to reflect and remember.

Memorial Statue for Cheryl DePuydt's Garden to Be Dedicated May 10 submitted by Dorothy Jamison, friend and former coworker of Cheryl DePuydt

A statue to memorialize the late Cheryl DePuydt will be dedicated on Sunday, May 10, at 11:30 a.m. at the garden planted in her honor, located at the entrance of the MacInnes Student Ice Arena. Prior to the ceremony, there will be a Mass for DePuydt at St. Ignatius Church in Houghton at 9:30 a.m.

The garden, in the shape of a figure eight, was dedicated in September 2005, shortly before DePuydt passed away. A memorial statue/scholarship fund was set up shortly thereafter with the intention of placing a statue alongside the garden. The bronze statue was custom made by an artist in California.

DePuydt's arrival on campus in 1972 coincided with the opening of the ice arena. She spent many hours helping ice skaters develop their skills, directing ice shows and teaching summer skating school. The statue and garden are memorials to the influence DePuydt had on the lives of so many skaters, especially the young.

Members of the campus community are invited to join the family and friends of DePuydt at the dedication. A reception will follow in the Blue Line Room of the SDC.
