Cathy Westcott and company were recently out traveling the Keweenaw's snowmobile trails, stopping long enough to snap a few shots along the way. Well, actually in that first picture it doesn't look like everyone was stopped, just our picture taker. Of course the second photo is the obligatory "stop along the trails for the group shot". But the third one, is the reason many folks love to get out there on the snowmobile trails, to enjoy the views that you encounter as you travel through the woods and come out in a clearing. I'm not certain what mountain that is in the distance. Can anyone enlighten us on which Copper Country peak that is?

WOW...looks good. I was supposed to be on a snowmobile trip as I type, in the eastern UP, but had to cancel due to lack of snow...I guess we should have planned to go to the west side of the UP!!.....even a little snow here in trollville!

By Eddyfitz (Eddyfitz) on Saturday, January 27, 2007 - 09:58 am:

Not much snow in the Detroit area but I noticed that many basketball games were cancelled in the Thumb area north of Port Huron..Believe they had 8.5" or so on Thursday.Am glad for the Keweenaw to have enough now to keep the sleds and the economy going this winter.

Great Winter pictures. NO snow in Ohio and I love it, the older generation doesn't like snow and ice, sorry but you all will know what I mean sooner or later.

By kathie Murto (Murtomania) on Saturday, January 27, 2007 - 02:19 pm:

thank goodness there is enough snow for snowmobiling. I will be making that trip to Marquette on Feb 14th to see the dog sled races. Should be very exciting. Does anyone know of a good place to rent snowmobiles in Marquette or Marquette area? Thanks

You may want to check here: Click® www.johndee.com Click on the General Discussion link on the left side of the page, enter same, then probably check out Area Conditions and Info.

If you join up you can post your question there too (members only, just like PastyCam, and for the same reasons).

3 to 4" here south of Port Huron north of Anchor Bay! Dave H.TN knows where I mean. He used to live here! Another 3 to 4" forecast here in the next 2 days and back again down to -0! We get lake effect snow here sometime off Lake Huron!
Snowmobiles buzzing around all over here now! They're lovin it!

By Laurie B. (Ratherberiding) on Saturday, January 27, 2007 - 04:37 pm:

On snowmobile rentals, you can check with the Ace Hardware in Ishpeming and possibly the Yamaha dealership in Ishpeming Township also. Then there's Midway Rentals in Negaunee. Not sure if these places still rent.

By kathie Murto (Murtomania) on Saturday, January 27, 2007 - 04:49 pm:

FRNash, thanks for the site. I checked it out and it looks great.

Laurie, thank you for the places to check. I know exactly where both of those places are and I will check them out also. I am so excited about going to Marquette in the Winter. We have only gone during the summer months, but couldnt pass up seeing the dog sled races.

Kathie, sure wish we were headed up there this February, what a nice Valentine's Day present, much better than candy or flowers, eh?

Getting on that snowmobile and going out into the woods is so relaxing, peaceful and good for the mind.

By David Hiltunen (Davidcorrytontn) on Saturday, January 27, 2007 - 05:40 pm:

Russell my friend;I do miss it around your place. It worked for me while I was there,I know you'd like it here too,but would miss the snow.

Kathie

By Jan and Mike in Herscher (Janandmike) on Saturday, January 27, 2007 - 11:35 pm:

Pictures make us want to try snowmobiling in the UP, know motocycling and boating are great up there. Not much snow in central Il, as Joanie would know since we're about 35 miles southeast of her. Been going to the UP since 1951 (one year old). Love the area.

NOW! that how it suppose to look in the U.P. Soon to be a troll:)

By Yooper at Heart (Missy) on Saturday, February 3, 2007 - 10:23 am:

Where are the pictures taken? These are my guesses. #1 is on the trail from Gay to Lac La Belle - a hill heading up into Lac La Belle - take a right into Lac La Belle. #2 is taken outside of Gay, MI towards Thayers Lake. #3 This is taken between Gay, MI and Lac la Belle, MI in the lowland swamps.
