Oh my goodness, I sure had a good laugh when I saw today's first photo, snapped by Mary Schmitt. She spotted these legs on Calumet Avenue (M26/US41) in Calumet. Looks like someone took a nosedive in that huge mountain of snow. I wonder if they'll be stuck there until spring? :-)

The remaining photos here today, were taken by Melanie Hakala Rossi, with her first picture giving you a full view of where the legs are located, as you're driving down the highway. I'm sure there has been more than a couple passers-by that have done a double-take when they spot a set of legs sticking out of the snow bank there.

Melanie snapped her last three photos on Mine St. in Calumet, showing the amount of snow that has piled up around these parts and how nice it is if you have a tractor with a snowblower to clear your driveway. The snow bank is almost taller than the tractor…good thing it's a dark color, so you can see it peeking over the top of the mounds of snow. I wonder, will this be a record breaking winter here UP North?

These are the pictures people will look at 50 years
from now and tell about the storms in the 'good old
days'!!

Snow, snow, snow!!!
Jbuck, they may be saying in 50 years, 'that was the winter of "global warming"'!;>

check out Little Brothers and look at the snow they were shoveling off the roof of the office. The volunteers were all so appreciated that came out to do that for Little Brothers. They did not finish the roof but, 'very thankful' for what they did do. ;O)

The soup was pretty good, too.

Now, now, Shirley!

You KNOW that it is "Climate Change" when it's cold
& snowy.

Wow!

By Eddyfitz (Eddyfitz) on Friday, January 10, 2014 - 11:47 am:

It sure is a snowy season. We have had about 20" in the last week and we are a little south of Detroit and just inland from Lake Erie. Great pics today and quite similar to what I see from looking our our front window.

My kids and grand kids always laugh when I tell them of the times while growing up in the "copper country" and us 5 boys had to help dad "shovel off the roof" before we went out to play.

By Capt. Paul (Eclogite) on Friday, January 10, 2014 - 02:05 pm:

That's nothing Eddy; when I tell folks here that we used to use snowblowers to clear the deep snow off our roofs, I usually get the reply "What's a snowblower"??

By Karen Benton (Nerakthenice178) on Friday, January 10, 2014 - 04:30 pm:

Aggghhhh! It's melting!!! All that beautiful white stuff is melting!! Curse you, global warming, and your little climate change, too! :) We're up to a balmy 36, and heading for the Saharan 40's tomorrow. Dagnabbit, I wish the Loper Detroit area would make up it's bloody mind and keep all this beautiful white stuff until at least March. Great pics, ladies, thank you for showing the Lope how to deal with it.

Yeah I hear you Karen. It's melting here in Milwaukee too. Ugh.

By Shirley Waggoner (Shirlohio) on Friday, January 10, 2014 - 06:10 pm:

Condolences and a warm hug to you, Dennis.

By Marianne Y (Marianne) on Friday, January 10, 2014 - 07:37 pm:

There are two sides to a coin, so to speak. My oldest son, who is a Michigan Tech alum (2008), absolutely loved the snow and cold up there. On the other hand, he hates it in greater Detroit. He lives in Troy and commutes to Dearborn every week day. He thinks that most Detroit drivers can't handle winter driving with snow and ice, so most of them should be kept off the streets until either they can handle winter driving on the freeways at least during rush traffic, or all until all of the frozen stuff melts off. Since that will not happen, then he wants it all to melt quickly, if not sooner! Sorry, Karen, no offense intended.

It is raining hard here in mid-Michigan now, hard enough to drench our two little dogs when they have to go outside for a minute to do their business. I hope the temperature doesn't drop enough to freeze the rain until the roads dry off, to minimize icy roads for drivers.

By kay Moore (Mskatie) on Friday, January 10, 2014 - 08:58 pm:

Boy did I do an "Icy sidewalk Waltz" as I unloaded groceries from car to apt. in a torrid, pounding rain this afternoon.!!! And to think just a few days earlier school was called off two days because it never reached zero for a high temp. "My" teachers were trying to review stuff from before Christmas to catch up those little kindergarten minds. And I must check out exactly what they mean by 'global warming. It's horribly hot in the southern hemisphere compared to our terrible colds. Could it be because we continue to live daily without thought to what is happening to our universe? Just asking.......... P.S. thanks for all your thoughtful birthday greetings.............

By Alex "UP-Goldwinger" (Alex) on Friday, January 10, 2014 - 09:17 pm:

Capt...I have a few choice responses to that question "What's a snow blower", but I don't think they will fly here. Let's just say that Frosty is wearing a smile :-)

By chris oleksy (Coleksy) on Sunday, January 12, 2014 - 05:40 am:

I tink da TKE brothers from Tech left me on this road back in '81. Tank God we found da JET (J&T) bar in Ahmeek to thaw our swampers. Good times! We had 5 4-wheel drive trucks in the back yard, and you couldn't see the tops of them. One crazy guy kept his AMC Hornet running throughout the entire winter. Thank you Richard Payne, wherever you are!
