Easter Greetings! We conclude March with a combined Shoebox Memory and end-of-month remembrance.

postmark

The Easter Greeting was sent from downstate Lake Orion, 101 years ago (sorry the penny postage stamp is missing). Thinking back over such a century of change, it suddenly occurred to me that this correspondence was exchanged before any of those listed below had been born. And now, all too soon, they have passed on. I just learned yesterday of Arden Callahan's death in Florida, a familiar summer resident here in the Keweenaw. Arden was among the first visitors to our home in Eagle River when it was new, where the sunset above was enjoyed out our back window last night. You are welcome to add the name of one you would like to remember with this month's memorial:

Delores Bourdeau
Arden Callahan
Bob Davis
June Kus
Ralph Raffaelli
Oletta Shaling
Nancy Gail Sparks
Servicemen and women who have given their all

May the blessings of Easter be yours. Have a good week :o)

By DEAN SCHWARTZ SR. (Lulu) on Sunday, March 31, 2013 - 10:16 am:

In loving memory of my dad Leonard E. Schwartz, 1/9/1917-3/25/1981. I sometime wonder what he would do or say about the world today. He was in the second wave of the D-Day invasion. He was a quiet man, he loved my Mom, that I know. Sure miss him, so many questions unanswered.

Remembering my wonderful Dad, 12/1/1918 - 3/13/1985.
He was wounded in the Battle of the Bulge but never
came off the line. He spoke very little of his time
in the Army, but i would have loved to have known
more of his experiences (good and bad).

I'm so proud of you Daddy! We all miss you so
much......

By DEAN SCHWARTZ SR. (Lulu) on Sunday, March 31, 2013 - 03:00 pm:

jbuck,I know what you mean. My Dad was wounded the first time the day my brother was born (9/7/1944) and the second time sometime in December 1944.He never talked about it until about 6 months before he passed. Then it was very little. They are the Greatest Generation period.

By Therese (Therese) on Sunday, March 31, 2013 - 09:06 pm:

My dear aunt Mary Schneider from
Trenton, Michigan. She danced 50 years
with multiple sclerosis and kept a smile
on her lips and laughter in her heart.
There was a rare party in Heaven when
she entered.

By Tom Pare (Finndian) on Monday, April 1, 2013 - 11:33 pm:

Bill Burkitt, my best friend for 51 years. Lost to
his 1st heart attack -- please remember, folks,
that even "indigestion" should be checked out
because sometimes it's not indigestion.

Barb Saari, my lovely and loving aunt. Lost to
cancer.

May their spirits find comfort and peace..
