Yes, that's right, we finally have enough snow to snowshoe in most places here UP North, only now it's been so frigid, that it's really not safe to be outdoors for too long. Last week, Elaine Robbins and her hubby headed out in the Ontonagon area, to check out the trails and this is what she had to say about the adventure:

"My husband, Kim, and I went up to the Porcupine Mountain Wilderness Park. The park has been offering guided snowshoe hikes on Saturdays and lantern-lit cross-country skiing and snowshoeing on Saturday nights, so we thought we would check out the trails. We "shoe'd" the Superior Loop and then took in the beautiful Lake Superior view at Union Bay. It's hard to believe we had the trail to ourselves on such a perfect day."

Sure does look like it was a beautiful day. I'm guessing that after all the snow we've received in the past few days here in the U.P., that the conditions are more snow covered and fluffy. So once the temperatures warm up a little, it's time to get out there and enjoy the white gold that's fallen. In the meantime, you can gather up all the gear and warm clothes you'll need and have them ready!

Looks like fun and I'll bet that the sunshine is a welcomed friend.

Looks like Elaine is about to do the "yooper happy dance" in celebration of the trails being open!! ;-)

Right now, at 8:07 AM, there are 2 critters on the
Sunset Bay cam. (It actually says 8:21 on the cam.)
Anyone have any idea what they are? I think they
might be coyotes.

WOW, look at that! It's another non-Brenda outdoorsy picture. Nice Elaine. Love the pictures!! Glad you had so much fun!!

I went and checked out the Sunset Bay Cam after
Eugenia mentioned the critters on it and this is
what I saw. It sure does look like coyotes, but
shortly after I copied this, they were gone and then
it looked like crows, so I'm guessing there's
something dead on the shore there and that's what
they're feeding on.

Dirty job but somebody's got to do it, eh, Mary?;)

Wow Elaine... so glad you too were enjoying a beautiful winter day, snow shoeing and skiing. Gorgeous photos indeed. Deb for your info two friends and myself were out yesterday in the subzero temps. We shoed into a lake called Pendills. IT WAS A ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL DAY and the temps never got over five below zero. We were bundled up warm and happy hikers indeed.

Ahhhhh, Winter.

Thanks, Mary. I had to leave and couldn't watch to
see if more critters showed up, but I'm glad you saw
something else there.
