Chad Johnson took a drive around the Keweenaw over the weekend, starting from Lake Linden and ending up in Eagle Harbor to check out the blustery weather. That's the Traprock Valley Road in the first shot, snow covered and slippery, but if you drive carefully, you're treated to some beautiful winter scenery along the way. Taking the scenic route, you can avoid the "big" city streets of Laurium and Calumet and come back out on US 41/M 26, right before Mohawk.

Along the way, Chad veered off US 41 in Phoenix and headed to the Eagle River shoreline to check out the ice cover there. The visibility out over Lake Superior wasn't the best, as you can see. There was a storm brewing with heavy snow falling. The next stop was in Eagle Harbor for a look at the ice there, too. Looks like both shorelines have the same icyness going on.... chunky and looking mighty cold.
Thanks for taking us along for the ride, Chad!

Chad, turn up the heater in the car, I'm about to freeze on this drive. Beautiful views though!

What a great drive, Chad! Thanks for sharing. It's my favorite time of year, and in SE lower today, it's my favorite weather condition - snow! Stay safe and warm everybody.

In the warm weather months (remember those?) it's the route I take on the motorcycle when doing the loop around the Keweenaw. A nice ride, especially when fall color is at it's peak. Stay warm!

My brother, Bill Neher, lives on Traprock Valley Rd, so I
know this drive well. Wish we were heading to his place
right now. We have ZERO snow on the ground here in metro
Detroit.

Now that looks like some in-your-face, bold cold.

Oh my don't these photos make one wish that we were younger and able to physically enjoy those wonderous scenes again! Thanks for sharing this beautiful season with us. And John Dee's narratives fill out our distant pictures. And a short nursing note to Sharon Smith...be careful using those heating pads for her aches and pains.Could get some nasty burns from too long of use at a time. Happy Inaugral Day. So proud to be an American.

Great snow pictures. It makes me think of my young days as a boy growing up in the UP.
