Jodi Corrigan snapped a short series of photos of her son's pup, Neala, who was stalking something in the dandelions. Actually, I think he was hoping to find something to play with, but once he got a better look, I hope he backed off and decided it wasn't worth getting his nose stung, just for a few minutes of fun with a bumblebee. What a great moment to capture... smile makers for sure.

The Keweenaw is teeming with bugs right now...bumblebees, biting black flies and ticks, just to name a few. The first two, bite, so you'll know if you encounter them. The ticks like to hide though, so if you're out and about with your pets, be sure you check yourself and your furry friends for ticks when you get back inside.

So cute. Our dog did that last weekend and we should have let her get stung, but we shooed her away from it after a while. We used to have a cat who played with bees all the time. That cat was always licking his paw because he was getting stung. Not the sharpest knife in the drawer.

Thanks for sharing!

Such a cute, inquisitive pup! He has pretty markings and colors. (With a name like Neala, maybe she?)

Regarding ticks: My sister's small dog got deer ticks in her daughter's front yard in Wisconsin a few years ago. The pup was bitten in several places and had to be treated for Lyme disease. Very distinctive bull's eye patterns -- almost like they were drawn on with a red Sharpie marker.

Aw, so sweet! Doggies are so cute when they furrow their brow while watching something so intently. :>
"Neala", what a unique name!

yes pup...be careful with that bee...I had a cat sniffing a bee one time..and she got her nose stung. I have never heard such an ungodly sound come out of a cat in my life...she never again looked at anything that flew by.

Don't mean to laugh, Donna, but the description you gave of the sound from your kitty after the sting, and being a cat-'servant' myself, I could easily imagine that sound. :-O

Just got back from Eagle River, never saw so many ticks -on our dogs and ourselves. Warm spring weather?

Thanks for all the comments on Neala. Yes Lisa, Neala is a she.(It's ok Mary that you called her a he!) Her name is of Irish Origin, meaning Female Champion. When the bee flew away, she jumped at it and tried to bite it. Fortunately, the bee was faster than her!

Bee stings not good for dog, cat, or people. Dogs can have deadly reactions to bee stings. Our daughter's GSP had to take Benadryle for a nasty allergic reaction.

Nice dog. I love dogs.

Oh my gosh, that is such a cute pup! I've always had a soft spot for hounds, more than likely because I grew up with a beagle/bassett mix...

Thanks for explaining Neala's name, Jodi, I'd say it fits her well.:)
