Roast in the oven, with potatos, carrots and onions and a pot of split pea soup cooking on the top of the stove. Love my split pea soup.

I especially like the Autumn scenes. Can't get enough of them.

By mickill mouse (Ram4) on Sunday, October 2, 2011 - 08:04 am:

We might take a ride up to Copper Harbor, depends when everything is done cooking. Beautiful time of year with all the colors.

By Debi Steinle (Debi) on Sunday, October 2, 2011 - 08:18 am:

Hey, Mickell: I'm gonna cook the same (roast, spuds and carrots) in a bit here. Only I add garlic and some Lipton Onion Soup Mix. YUMMY!!

By Grace M Wetton (Gmw) on Sunday, October 2, 2011 - 08:53 am:

Good morning everyone. 40 and clear here in Houghton. Have a great day!

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Sunday, October 2, 2011 - 09:06 am:

Good morning!! Love the Autumn Greetings picture. Would love to do something like that outside here. It looks like fun!! Also loved the Michigan Tech picture. Love the mirrored look of a lake. Awesome colors in this morning's review.

Gonna be a beautiful day here. Gonna go to the neighbor's place and clean up their tomatoes to make more salsa and also pick more apples off their tree. They have so many of them they don't know what to do with them.

Have a great Sunday, everybody!! Don't know if the Lions are playing or not, but if they are, go Lions. Too bad the Yankees beat the Tigers yesterday. Sad that JV lost his pitching start due to rain. But the Wolverines sure did roll, and how about Michigan State beating Ohio State. That's always awesome!!

Guten Tag! Going to Oktoberfest, guess what's for dinner" "Hau weg das Zeug!"

By Donna (Donna) on Sunday, October 2, 2011 - 09:25 am:

Deb...make brandy cordial out of the apples...and use some cinnamon...I made that one year...it was the BEST stuff!

Get you a gallon sized glass jar, 4 qts of whatever berry/chopped apples, 4 cups sugar, brandy to cover...let it sit for 6 months, strain, settle, siphon. AMAZING stuff! And seriously...that apple/cinnamon.....MMMMMMMMM.....

The Badgers look like a contender............

By kay Moore (Mskatie) on Sunday, October 2, 2011 - 10:12 am:

FJL, had a guy we wintered with in Texas. Drove us bonkers with his Nebraska laden RV and Huskers yakking. So I shouldn't feel bad about last nights romp by the Badgers but gee that Wilson and Ball worked magic. I now have another team to cheer for. And another stunning fall day here. Going for a ride this afternoon searching for some butternut squash.

By Eugene Zuverink (Zube) on Sunday, October 2, 2011 - 10:23 am:

It's 40 here in southern Michigan this morning.
So Deb your going to raid your neighbors garden,
I hope you don't get caught.

By Alex "UP-Goldwinger" (Alex) on Sunday, October 2, 2011 - 10:23 am:

Nice pics!

By FJL (Langoman) on Sunday, October 2, 2011 - 10:48 am:

Mskatie, nice to see that some women are intrested and understand some sports.....

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Sunday, October 2, 2011 - 11:04 am:

Donna, sounds nummy!!!!

Yes Kay, I was extremely happy to see Nebraska get beat. Go Badgers, and whoever else plays Nebraska, lol!!

Zube, we have permission to raid the garden, lol. He's been bugging us for weeks now to go and get all the apples we want. And they're out of town until Thursday so their tomatoes are rotting. Can't be letting that happen, especially since Mr. Deb makes the best salsa!!!

By kay Moore (Mskatie) on Sunday, October 2, 2011 - 11:52 am:

Deb do you suppose we could work out some kind of farmers' market on pasty. I'd love some of Mr. Deb's jams and jellies. And now I'm interested in his salsa. Can he make a mild salsa? As I always asked in Texas resturants if they had any 'gringo' salsa to eat with the introductary chips. Hoped it wasn't bad to call it that. :O>)

By kay Moore (Mskatie) on Sunday, October 2, 2011 - 11:58 am:

FJL it's usually more fun if one is following your own kids or grandkids. But I'm now interested in learning about soccer. Youngest grandson (13) is into it. Would like to know at least do they had innings, quarters, thirds??? I guess it can be quite a rough sport. Luke is generally a (oh heck who is the guy/girl who stops the ball from getting in the net???) Oh the goalie. DUH Kay.

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Sunday, October 2, 2011 - 01:06 pm:

That would be fun, Kay!!

Mr. Deb's salsa is very mild. In fact, it's more of a sweet salsa than anything else. He puts way less jalepeno's than are called for, and he adds some brown sugar. A lot of people wouldn't like it, but we don't like a spicy salsa so it works for us. It's delicious!!

October's edition of Guideposts magazine has a wonderful story about Autumn in Michigan.

Great PR about the beauty of both peninsulas at this time of year. Here's the link: http://www.guideposts.org/inspirational-stories/texans-prayer-answered-michigans-colorful-chill

Holy smokes!! The Lions made another 2nd half comeback this week. Is this great, or what???

Time to watch the Tigers/Yankees game. Go Tigers!!

By Hollidays (Hollybranches) on Sunday, October 2, 2011 - 04:56 pm:

Lions won---again! Take that you Dallas Cowboys!

Can't wait for next weekend; Lions vs Bears. I will be torn apart rooting for the right team. My heart still belongs to the Bears. I would like to see the Lions win but not against the Bears.

Beautiful day today, leaves are in their prime. Sat on the deck today and watched the birds flying south.

The leaves are doing their thing, and will continue for another week.

Picked the last of the tomatoes, yes, we still have tomatoes UP here. Not a good year for green peppers and tomatoes. Put the remaining tomatoes in the kitchen window, hope they turn.

Heard a lot of shotguns going off today, a true sign of fall.

Going to watch the Packs, hope they win.

Got a big hankering for pasties, having spaghetti instead----not the same thing.

Enjoy this beautiful fall day, we are.

By kay Moore (Mskatie) on Sunday, October 2, 2011 - 05:21 pm:

Deb I'll buy a half dozen of Ron's salsa. Sounds just right for my delicate taste buds (if the jars are less than a gallon :O>)! Hollidays...I took a ride of just near 100 miles. Finally found a roadside stand for the squash I need for that soup. Also a spagetti squash and an acorn. Boy I'll be healthy as a horse eating all this squash. And by next week we should have close to prime color too. Took some back roads looking for veg. stands and traveled some gravel roads I hadn't been on in YEARS. Everything is tuning up for the color finale soon. Personally I believe The Creator invented autumn so we can tough it out thru the bad parts of winter! Happy day everybody.

Oh you betcha, and they yoosta have a really good restaurant too, before the fire. Whatever happened to the Chippewa, It is still alive and well?

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Sunday, October 2, 2011 - 06:19 pm:

Kay, you know darn well that Ron will give you a jar of salsa!! You just have to ask. Maybe we'll get your name for our annual Christmas drawing, eh?

By Capt. Paul (Eclogite) on Sunday, October 2, 2011 - 07:17 pm:

I can attest to Mr. Deb's salsa; it is great. Not too spicy, not too sweet, one could almost call it Goldielocks Salsa....... ;-)

By Capt. Paul (Eclogite) on Sunday, October 2, 2011 - 07:19 pm:

And how 'bout them Packers.....
Setting up for quite the potential showdown in Motown at Thanksgiving.

Nobody makes salsa better than Cindy Barga (Hoosiergirl)! The best in the world!

By Cindy Barga (Hoosiergirl) on Monday, October 3, 2011 - 04:37 pm:

Thanks Hollidays!! Thanks to our extremely hot weather this summer, the jalapenos were pretty hot...so the salsa is on the spicy side this year, just how I like it.
