See if you can find the dog, hidden in the first photo? That's Mandy and even though you spotted her right away, she really does have some good camouflage color this time of year, blending into the Autumn hues quite well. This big, hairy, labradoodle, belongs to Judy Byykkonen, who likes to go exploring with Mandy by her side.

Unless that exploring takes her away from home in the car, like Judy's second and third photo did. She was doing a bit of exploring around the Keweenaw, when she spotted the colors jumping out in what looks like it could be the Cliffs area. You can see by Judy's third photo, that some leaves have turned, some have already fallen and some are still holding onto their green-ness. I'm guessing that for the most part, the colors will be peaking this weekend, but there will still be some color left to enjoy for a number of days after that

What nice shots again today. The pictures of fall color these last few days have just been awesome! Guess there's a reason they call Washington "the Evergreen state". So seeing the fall color here does my heart good. We just have NO color here at all. The leaves that do fall do it whilst still green or go brown. I miss the color season. So, thanks to all who share the wealth here for all to see!

Mandy looks like such a sweet girl! Have had no experience with the "oodle" part but a lot of experience with the "lab" part, so I know she's a sweetie! Ahhh, these colors make me so lonesome for Autumn in Michigan! ('sposed to get up to 80 in our area today...."Indian Summer")

Would LOVE to be in the UP for the colors! However, our colors here in Midland are amazing too. Enjoy this beautiful fall weather!!!

Day in History is getting ahead of itself today.
Harder to find historical references that fit the Pasty Central?

I'm guessing that by the time we get there, most of the leaves will be gone. Still, they should be out nicely in the Twin Cities which is where we are leaving for tomorrow for our annual trip to the GSA Annual Conference. Really looking forward to it this year as there will be a lot of interesting sessions on Lake Superior geology. After the conference, we're heading for the Keweenaw for a couple days before having to leave again....

Speaking of geology: I saw the photos yesterday but couldn't post anything until late last night. Yesterday turned into a 17 hour workday and all of it away from a computer. The rocks in the first photo were naturally cut by a combination of water action and a weakness in the rock (a series of joints).

UC...with the rutting season in full swing, I bet he sees a lot of action.

By Therese (Therese) on Thursday, October 6, 2011 - 06:46 pm:

That is one fine looking dog! And the surrounding color is prety nice too!

I can vouch for the labradoodle breed. Mandy is a real sweetheart of a dog!!!

Our Neighbor has a labradoodle named Brandi!!! How funny!

By Richard Baker (Scoops) on Thursday, October 6, 2011 - 09:32 pm:

Made the trek to the Harbor today! I can say after spending a day
on Minnesota's North Shore & passing through Northern Wisconsin
that the Keweenaw has the best color! Just got back from a
delicious meal at Pilgrim River Steakhouse - The Blueberry bundt
cake was to die for!
