Well, I'm not sure that I've ever seen a hummingbird's tongue, but that's what were looking at in Melanie Hakala Rossi's top photo. This tiny bird, sure can extend her tongue quite far, I guess that's how she gets the nectar out of the feeders. Melanie snapped a great shot of a male ruby throated hummingbird, hovering in midair, too.

The third and fourth photos come from Marsha Galbraith and were taken off Point Abbaye in the Keweenaw Bay area, as the sun was going down. I love how the hummer in the third shot, looks like it's trying to get a drink from the sun. Very neat.

Going along with the silhouette theme, Frederic W. Koski captured a different type of photo with the shadow of a hummingbird, reflected on the window shade, by the sun shining through the window. How cool is that?

Leave to our talented Pasty Camist photographers, to come up with some unique photography highlighting this busy little bird. Thanks to all three!

Those are awesome!! We've been snapping pix of a tree swallow feeding her babies. They're just about ready to take flight. They're just so cute. We've been watching them every night. Got some really cool pictures, too. We also have a family of wrens in one of our birdhouses. I love birds!!

Good pics. Know why humming birds hum? Because they don't know the lyrics (nyuk, nyuk, nyuk).

Had no clue as to the hummingbird's tongue. Great pictures, thank you, it made my day.

Years ago, while traveling out west, I got up very close to a hummingbird feeder and noticed what I thought was the end of their beaks where very rubbery. Now I realize it wasn't their beaks, it was their tongues that was flexing. Learn a lot of stuff at Pasty Central. Thanks.
