If you keep driving all the way to the very tip of the Keweenaw Peninsula, you'll come to a beautiful spot called High Rock Bay. That's where Kathy LaBonte and her hubby decided to take a ride recently. They brought back these photos so we can share in the beauty of it all. Did you spot the freighter in the first picture? It's just on the horizon, where Lake Superior meets the sky. What about Kathy's next shot... can you find the agate? I'm just teasing, if there really is one in this shot, I certainly don't know where it is, either. :->

Photo number three is my favorite, as it embodies everything I love about the Big Lake. Unique large rocks, a wave rolling up to wash over them and the sound of the splash as it rolls onto shore. I know, you can't really hear that sound, but the photo really speaks to me of the splash about to come, so it's just like I'm right there and will hear it any minute now. So, if you're thinking this is a trip you'd like to take yourself, Kathy's last picture is just to let you know, that you better have a four wheel drive vehicle and not mind driving through mud holes on the way. You can tell by the looks of her Jeep, they had a little bit of mud flying around on their way to today’s beautiful scenery.

Thanks for the freighter picture today. It has made my day as I arose early to list pictures of the U.P. on Ebay.
Have a good weekend everyone.

Oh....there's agates...for sure...And some of the most beautiful ones too! Highrock Bay is hard to get to....I went out there with someone with a 4 wheel drive. 13 miles took 45 mins. But what a BEAUTIFUL place to get to...

Oh yeah! muddy trails + ATV's = good times!

We tried getting to the tip one time in our Expedition. It was so bouncy, and we had my parents with us. My dad couldn't take the bouncing around. Soooooooo, after about 30 minutes of heading to the tip, we decided to turn around because my dad was getting edgy about being in the middle of nowhere. He hadn't been feeling the greatest and was always leery about being too far away from civilization. Some day we may get out there, but we'd rent ATV's or something.

My favorites are the 1st and 3rd picture.

Oh yes we can ... really hear that sound of the Superior waves rolling over the beautiful rocks onto the shore! I could hear it as I was looking at today's beautiful photos, and reading your wonderful description, Mary! I love that sound, too!! :)

I LOVE my Jeep! Great photos today too!

Each time I see these photos I'm taken aback at how
low the water level is. I've noticed it dropping at
least the last 7 or 8 years or so, tho it's more
likely much longer. This phenomenon warrants some
real attention.
It's been a few years since I've been to High Rock,
and it looks like the road is pretty heavily
traveled these days - much wider and smoother than
the old days! High time I got back out there!

Today it has been one year since I came back home here to the Copper Country from the Smoky Mountains of Tennessee, so I no longer need to come to Pasty to see these things..but I still do to get ideas of what to go see next.. I am loving it.

Back in my athletic days I would hike out to High Rock Bay and spend the weekend camping there and at Keystone Bay. Nice sandy beach there. The old rocket launch sites at High Rock Bay were also quite interesting.

There are indeed agates at HighRock as I have a couple. The rock in the third photo is very interesting to study as well.....
