Did you ever notice that when icicles are in the midst of a meltdown, they become clearer, almost to the point of being able to see right through them? I like how David Clark captured this one at the stage I'm talking about and especially with the reflective droplet of water coming off the tip. I'm not sure, but it looks like there might be two pine trees mirrored in that suspended drip. Another example of perfect timing.

David's second photo has captured the melting off of the ice on a lake or pond, somewhere in the Keweenaw and the water has just enough of a small ripple going through it, to make the birch tree reflections wavy and jagged. I like the symbolism of the end of one season, with the beginning of the next encroaching on it's heals. It feels good to be heading into Spring!

Very N-ice! The first one looks like a baby alligator hanging upside-down.

The sump pump in the basement started running yesterday. It will work every 10 minutes now for several weeks. The snow melt in Calumet has begun (finally!).

I love the way your were able to catch that drop of water, before it dropped off the icicle, Dave! That is an awesome photo. A couple of weeks ago, our big white spruce tree had clear icicles like yours, but hanging under its snow-laden branches, after a fairly large snowstorm. I wish I had photos of it. Maybe next time, I hope. We've lived in our house for over 30 years, and that's the first time that I've seen icicles under snow-laden branches on that lovely tree! :-)

Whoops, I missed checking yesterday... and this morning, there
are my photos! Thanks for the kind comments everyone. I stood
with my back door open for about half an hour, trying to get the
icicle (right in front of the door) just right!
