Dave Soumis calls today's shot, Uncle Walt's pond. I think I know exactly where this is, but since I don't really have permission to say so, I'll keep it Dave's and my little secret for now. I can tell you though, that if I'm right about the location, it's a spot that I've admired for many years and when passing by, have always commented on how well kept and beautiful the spot is. Just looking at this snow-covered pond brings a quiet to my whole being. Thanks for this peaceful place to end the first work week of 2011 with.

Wonder if we have any Pasty Cam visitors from Russia, Ukraine, etc., who celebrate Christmas today? December 25 on the Julian Calendar comes on January 7 on the Gregorian Calendar. If you've ever wondered about how the two date systems came about, here's a good explanation.

Mary, your description is right...beautiful but brutally cold...gives me the shivers. And yep, a very serene scene!

I just voted. We are at #15!

One of the weaknesses in our voting strategy is weekends. Please remember that you can vote both Saturday and Sunday and you can vote three different ways. That's six votes per person that the other ideas are getting ahead of us.

Hello Charlie.....We just celebrated Christmas today at the SS. Sergius and Herman of Valaam Orthodox Church in Atlantic Mine. An Old Calendar Orthodox Church, we are affiliated with the Russian Orthodox Church Outside Russia. Currently without a priest, we meet every Sunday and on Feast Days at 10 AM, using Reader Service rubrics. We have the Divine Liturgy approximately every two months, whenever we have a visiting priest. Located in what used to be the old St. Mary by the Sea Catholic Church, we are a multi-ethnic parish, with parishioners from Bulgaria, Romania, Greece, Cyprus, Ethiopia as well as Russia, Belarus, and America. We've also had members from Latvia, Serbia, visitors from Finland, and the Syrian and Coptic Orthodox Churches. We welcome visitors who are interested in seeing what an Orthodox Church looks like on the inside, or observing our service, or want to learn more about the Orthodox Church. For more information, our church President, Lynn, can be reached at 906-523-6112.

Beautiful Winter scene. And Merry Christmas to those who still use the Julian Calendar.

Thanks for posting that image :)
Guess my Uncle Walt won't mind, but this is behind his house on Paradise Road just west of Chassell.
This is a very nice pond and is especially relaxing to sit by in the spring and summer. Fall too . Its a bit cold in the winter to sit out there, but still very tranquil.

Oh to be sitting a in cozy chair, with a fire going on in the background, WMPL playing softly, and to look out on that view of the pond and woods. What did John Denver say, "almost heaven....."
