Most of the time when folks talk about bird watching here in the Keweenaw, you think about people watching the birds, but when out kayaking in the Lac La Belle area recently, I spotted a bird watching me. It was one of those really hot days and I was wondering if this eagle perched atop that tree was just waiting for me to keel over from heat exhaustion and then it would swoop in for a feast. No matter if that was the case or not, it was a great photo opportunity with this stately looking bird just sitting there posing, while I snapped away. The Great Blue Heron shots were taken right here in Lake Linden. This guy was hanging around on the old pilings behind the school playground for a few days and I tried numerous times to sneak up on him to get a shot. They sure skittish birds, because as soon as I'd get close enough for a shot, he'd be alert and watching. One or two clicks of my shutter and off he'd fly. So there you have it... that's how the birds do their watching! :->

Neat shots Mary. I especially enjoy watching herons. Also pelicans in flight. So graceful and unhurried.

Mary, those are great shots! What a thrill for you! There is something so amazing about seeing these huge birds in their own habitat or when they visit yours. Beautiful!

AWESOME!! Excellent pics Mary!!

(And a little bird told me they weren't watching you...it was your kayaking partners! LOL)

Just watched the documentary on the fossil discovery in China of a four-winged dinosaur. It discussed the very early evolution of birds. Fascinating.

Great Shot's Mary. Funny, we havnt seen a Blue Heron on our end of Bootjack this summer!! Usually see them on the docks here.

Great shots! Thank you. Herons and egrets are all over Louisiana where we wintered last year. I had shots of one 'fishing off the dock' at a state park.

Fantastic photos Mary! The last shot is my favorite. The heron looks like he is posing for you. I love the glimmering water as well. On a different note the big bird told me,via ebird mail that she was watching a handsome old guy in his kayak.
