This year's theme for the Michigan Tech Winter Carnival Statue building is: Games We Know Captured in Snow. We have a few pictures of the resulting snow sculptures to enjoy, taken by Daryl Laitila. I'm going to have to depend on some of you viewers that may have gone to see the handiwork of the students in person, to identify the statues more precisely. I'm not certain what group's statues these photos are of and if they're winners or not.

With that said, Daryl's photos do give us a good look at the intricate details that are put into these snowy pieces of artwork. I don't know about you, but each and every year this competition amazes me, that these budding engineers can take a pile of snow and turn it into something like you see here today.

If you're interested in the results of the Snow Statue competition, along with just about anything else you might want to know about Winter Carnival at Tech, you can find it all right here: Statue Results and more.

I want to thank you, Daryl and Mary, for sharing photos of one of my favorite winter events in the Copper Country. My first winter carnival living in the Copper Country was 1968; of course, the ice statutes were a lot taller back then. I cannot remember the year that the administration set height limits. My oldest son, the Tech grad, as a young child really looked forward to seeing them, as a mechanical engineer student, he really enjoyed being a part of working and building his house statute (4 years).

The first three are of Phi Kappa Tau, in Hancock, who this year won First Place in Month Long (Fraternity) Category for the third year in a row.

I have already experienced Winter Carnival so I took Mr. Bill yesterday and we spent over 2 hours looking and taking pictures of the statues. We are going back out tomorrow and I want to take a few more pictures. Can not wait for the fireworks tonight. My favorite one is the monkey in the barrell and playing jacks. Did a lot of that as a little girl. ;O)

Love all the pictures posted.

I really would love to be up there this time of year. Maybe I will Leave TN. & come back home to enjoy the best years of my life. Gosh, is the U.P. ready for some one like me for a second time. Rafaellle, can't still be Sheriff in Houghton still.
I have always tried to be home to see statue's every couple of years or so. But it's been 7 long years since I been home.
