Looking at today's photos from Chris Gariepy, it appears that his recent snowmobiling trip was quite adventurous. What with jumps, stucks, untracked snow ahead, pole lines to follow and finally an awesome vista to behold, the day was surely a success for the whole crew. Well, maybe not so much for the guy that ended up on his side in the creek. It must have taken quite a few of his buddies to pull that one out and upright again. :->

Wish I was up in the UP ripping up (carefully) the trail on Brockway, or into Lac La Belle... Uncle Chuck, how much $$ would it take to get your butt on a sled again? more than I have i think... hahaha

I'm always amazed at how far and wide snowmobiles travel in the UP. Rare is the day that I go snowshoeing and don't find a snowmobile trail!

I prefer powder in the woods, but snowmobile trails do make the going easier after a long day.

Serena...I like your profile pic! That's awesome!

I miss snowmobiling a lot, but unfortunetly there isn't a lot of opportunity to do that in SE TX!!! ;-)

With the beauty of the snow and the abundant trails in the Keweenaw accidents still do happen. In February an individual went missing for several days on their snow machine. Several days later the individual was found about a mile from their home. The machine had gone airborne and the individual did not survive. Please, if at all possible ride in pairs.

Picture 2 looks like things could have gone better. Have fun but be safe.

By David C Cloutier (Dccloutier) on Thursday, March 5, 2009 - 12:19 pm:

I don't have a lot of experience riding snow machines, but when I rode them I always thought they worked a lot better if you kept the tracks and skis on the bottom.

By D. Clark (Dcclark) on Thursday, March 5, 2009 - 12:23 pm:

David (a fellow DCC, I approve): clearly you aren't thinking "outside the box" enough. Who knows what you might find underneath the snow??

:P

I'd like to rent them again Ben, but they don't make one where I can stretch my legs out, hurts my hips after 20 miles otherwise, besides, you like to go 80mph+ I have a bit more common sense then that these days, lol.

By Thomas Baird (Thomas) on Thursday, March 5, 2009 - 03:19 pm:

Love those Winter pics.

By Uncle Chuck @ Little Betsy (Unclechuck) on Thursday, March 5, 2009 - 04:47 pm:

The second picture would be something my nephew Ben would do, and of course the rental would be on my credit card! Come to think of it, my father-in law Doug would wreck it too! lol

By Mike (Upboundeh) on Thursday, March 5, 2009 - 07:19 pm:

The second pic....the only thing that comes to mind is OOPs. The life and times in the UP....priceless, truely pricess...cant wait to get my family and me back home.

By Serena Sturm (Serena) on Friday, March 6, 2009 - 08:05 am:

Thanks for the complement Janie! I love my winter sports and MI there's so much to see and do here. As John Dee would say, never ride above your ability.
