Hey! I beat the broadband crowd!

If anyone posts first without answering the Early Bird question, perhaps they should pay a fine /:>

I love the 2007 picture of the mother and calf. I have tried for 5 years to get a picture like that and I will continue to get one until I do. Each year I go copper country, camera in hand, long lens attached, and each year I get great pictures of the scenery, but none of the mother and calf. Oh well, nice trips to the UP though....

Is the Tech hockey team using brooms to practice curling?

By Marianne Y (Marianne) on Saturday, January 24, 2009 - 02:02 pm:

Hi, happy weekend! :-)

Actually, that game as posted, is currently called a broom ball game, and has been at least since my son started there in the fall of 2003. I've not heard of broom hockey before. I almost said something earlier. I guess they changed the name of it? It is similar to hockey, in some ways, but is played with a broom and a ball instead of a stick and a puck. (It is still a very dangerous game, though. Kids have badly broken hips, shoulders, legs, etc, falling on the ice, playing the sport, that I have heard of, anyway, in the last 2 or 3 years. They like to call those freak accidents? It is an intramural sport.)

By mickill mouse (Ram4) on Saturday, January 24, 2009 - 02:06 pm:

I really knew what it was about- I just wanted to be funny a little bit. To me hockey or broom hockey is a litte dangerous, sometimes one more than the other, but they still think it is fun.

By Marianne Y (Marianne) on Saturday, January 24, 2009 - 02:10 pm:

I was responding to the picture title, as much as anything. :-)

I understand there is an outdoor curling rink now, in or near Calumet, too.

By Capt. Paul (Eclogite) on Saturday, January 24, 2009 - 05:10 pm:

For as long as I remember, it has always been called broomball, and it will always be called broomball.

And as far as being a dangerous game, it's no more dangerous than any other sport or really any outdoor activity for that matter. Heck even getting out of bed in the morning could be considered dangerous, but we all do that every morning and think nothing of it!! ;-)

By David Hiltunen (Davidcorrytontn) on Saturday, January 24, 2009 - 06:12 pm:

How many minutes in the pen do you get for high brooming? Are nylon broom's legal? And don't forget you must drop your broken broom when it breaks right away. I would need a left handed broom with alot of curve to it.

By Ken ja Mimi from da UP (Kenjamimi) on Saturday, January 24, 2009 - 09:10 pm:

David H. "How many minutes in the pen?" Reminds me of a little joke, an old little joke. Why were the 3 little ink drops crying? 'Cause their mother was in the pen, and they didn't know how long the sentence would be.
:o) Oh well...

By David Hiltunen (Davidcorrytontn) on Saturday, January 24, 2009 - 11:05 pm:

I like it Ken.
