Jasper Ridge Brewery is located in Ishpeming, where the mining heritage and history is an important part of the area. Doug Grusser found some visible evidence of that, located right in front of the brewery. Sitting on a protion of the mining rails, is a Greenwood Mine car, dated 1932 to 1963. I don't have any information on this particular mine, so I'm hoping one of our mining "experts" can chime in with additional info for the mining history buff in all of us.

I am an extreme micro brew beer fan and have made pilgrimages to microbreweries throughout the state, country and world, but I still need to get around to visiting this one. I'll stop at the Ishpeming McDonald's to buy coffee and look wistfully at this place, then say "Better not."

My usual dilemna is I am driving to or from the Copper Country and to stop and have a few and having to get back on the road is not a good idea. Maybe I need to just to stay the night in Ishpeming and give this place a good look-see! For a Copper Country brew, try the Oatmeal Stout at Michigan House Cafe in Calumet.

My husband and I have been to many microbreweries as well. A few years ago, we visited the oldest brewery in the US, traveling there by motorcycle. We've also been to the second oldest and many, many more. He also makes his own beer. I wish I shared in his love of the brew. We live in Ishpeming and have been to Jasper a few times!!

Hey Tim and Laurie. Have either of you had the opportunity to visit the Michigan Brewing Co. at the intersection of I-96 and M-52 in Webberville. MI.?

Any score on the Lake Linden game?

Many of the guests who attended our daughter's wedding in
September had a chance to sample the beer at Jasper Ridge, as
they were lodged at the Best Western My husband, more than a
few cousins, and my daughter and son-in-law are fans of some of
the brews there. Likewise of the beer at the Michigan House in
Calumet. They are all also fans of the brews at the Vierling. I, like
Ratherberiding, do not care for the taste of beer.

Paulwebtroll: Went to Michigan Brewing Company and enjoyed it. Regarding Keweenah brews, I also recommend the "Cole Porter" at the Keweenah Brewing Company in downtown Houghton. Also, the Library Bar has a few interesting craft beers with a great view of the water. The U.P. and microbrews seem to be a natural match with the rugged terrain and climate.

I wish I could convince the monks at the Jampot to brew beer because they would probably be good and they could supplement their income: "Yes, I'll have a peanut butter and jelly brownie and a beer."

Sorry for the late post; It's been a hectic day around here.......

Believe it or not, I don't have any neat info to share about the Greenwood Mine as I don't know a whole lot about it. I do know the mine sits along strike with such mines as the Saginaw, Goodrich, and Fitch mines; all of which were iron mines in the region.

WAKEY-WAKEY. DID YOU TURN YOUR CLOCKS BACK??

By Jeff Kalember (Jeffkal) on Sunday, November 2, 2008 - 07:43 am:

I got to meet Greg Brown at Jasper just prior to his concert at Ishpeming High a couple years ago ....
