When is it going to warm up? This has to be one of the coolest springs we have seen in the 20 years since we moved to Eagle River.

Good morning all! Another fine day.

I want a plane ride! Anything is better than plain old work.

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Tuesday, May 13, 2008 - 07:56 am:

I'm with Charlie! I've never in my entire lifetime seen such a cool spring. I'm hoping it's not a sign of things to come this summer. We'll never be able to get into Superior at this rate.
Great pictures this morning.

By Janie T. (Bobbysgirl) on Tuesday, May 13, 2008 - 08:01 am:

A cool and wet spring here in eastern Iowa as well! At this rate I will never get to ride my Harley or get the boat out, few of my favorite spring/summer fun times for me!

We had one 80° day and the asparagus came on like gangbusters. Now, with temps in the low 40's at night and only low 60's during the day, it has really slacked off. Supposed to be 72° today, maybe it will make a comeback.

Does this cool spring mean the blackfly season will be delayed? How long does it generally last? I'm heavily allergic--will be UP in mid July.

By Richard Johnson (Dick_fl) on Tuesday, May 13, 2008 - 08:46 am:

Charlie complaining??? I thought you loved it there. I'll trade you. It is always hot and humid here in Florida. I want to go home! Growing up in Marquette years ago we always thought if it got to 55 we would go swiming cause we couldn't count on it getting any warmer. I remember snow on the Fourth of July in Marquette. The U.P is cool in more than one way! Have a great day!

By Charlie at Pasty Central (Chopper) on Tuesday, May 13, 2008 - 12:02 pm:

Richard,

I'm puzzled that you interpreted my opening comment as a complaint. On the contrary, I would love to see it like this all the time, as I have mentioned a number of times during the past 10 years of this forum. Cool temps do keep away the black flies.

In recent days I've become keenly aware in communication that the hearer completes each sentence with their own interpretation. For example, my first sentence above could have been finished like this:

1. When is it going to warm up? brrr... I'm freezing here. Get me to Florida.

or

2. When is it going to warm up? When will the party be over, and the black flies invade? Wish it would average 40 all summer!

My thinking was closer to the second interpretation :o)

I knew that Charlie. We have no humid sticky muggy weather here in TN. But you know it is a comming soon, and often it has been here by now.

By FRNash/PHX, AZ (Frnash) on Tuesday, May 13, 2008 - 02:39 pm:

When is it going to warm up, indeed!

May is quickly passing by, and Phoenix has yet to record a temperature of 100 ºF. Meanwhile, there's SNOW in Flagstaff, AZ this morning!

It's Global Warming, I Tell ya...
or maybe the beginning of the next Ice Age?

By Brooke (Lovethekeweenaw) on Tuesday, May 13, 2008 - 02:53 pm:

I enjoyed being outside last weekend without bugs, not much longer for those annoying little residents to come out. There was a sailboat out on Portage Lake Saturday, that said summer is coming.

By Snowman (Snowman) on Tuesday, May 13, 2008 - 06:22 pm:

FRNash, I'm comin' over, get those brewskis ready!
