One of those rare self-portraits of the Pasty Cam, taken by the guy who did most of the first two years of this daily feature. Jonathan happened to be on Cliff Drive that morning, eight years ago.

marianne.
Just wondering if you know the name of the children who passed on in the car accident in your county on friday? I live in Harrison and the news shows the kids were from harrison but no names yet.we have kids the same age and in this small town it's very possible we know the family. please send me a private email to answer my question so we dont post the names here.

By Marianne Y (Marianne) on Sunday, December 30, 2007 - 09:31 am:

According to this morning's paper, the names still have not been released. But, they are confirming that they had just left the funeral "of a loved one (here in Midland) and were headed to a luncheon (in Harrison)". It went on to say that the funeral here in Midland was of "Edward Albert Piteau, 83, Midland, who died Wednesday". The paper is kind of assuming that the two children who died are grandchildren of Edward Piteau? One funeral, for Christopher Piteau, is scheduled for Wednesday, January 2, here in Midland. The funeral for the second child, age 14, will be in Bay City, arrangements are incomplete? It sounds like they have not been able to notify all of the next of kin for the 14-year old.

It was a very sad situation, with the accident occurring shortly after the heavy snowfall began on Friday afternoon. The father lost control of their car, & got into the opposing traffic lanes.

Good morning!

Hooray for the Patriots!!!! 16-0 is quite something to be proud of. And just think, Tom Brady was only good enough to play for one year at the U of M. Just goes to show ya what kind of coaching they had there. I'm so happy for him. I'd love to see him get his 4th Super Bowl ring.

An acquaintance who once lived in Houghton County told me that about 25 or more years ago there was an effort to call the Keewenaw Peninsula "Copper Island" to promote tourism. He said that one of the people involved in the effort was "Mr. Ski" (Len Oikarinen).

A little research revealed that there is (or was) a place on the Canadian side of Lake Superior named Copper Island, and many years ago there were other copper mining areas in the U.S called "Copper Country".

Hello PastyCam friends,

We've just returned from a trip UP. Lots of driving. We left
Toronto on the 25th, and returned today. The snow was
beautiful, walks in the woods spectacular, meals scrumptious
and time with relatives and friends priceless. Father Baraga
blessed us as we left the Copper Country to head for Ishpeming.
We had pasties, whitefish, nissua, saffron bread and many other
tasty treats. We had saunas on two occasions (some of our
group rolled in the snow afterwards) and my father kept the
wood stove stocked so that we were always warm enough. In
some translations, Ishpeming means Heaven. It's Heaven to me.

I was depressed last night, so I called the Suicide Life Line.
Got a call center in Pakistan...I told them I was suicidal....They got all excited and asked if I could drive a truck.
Now that's outsourcing at it's finest!
