Charlie at Pasty Central (Chopper) on Friday, October 26, 2007 - 07:47 am:

Construction in Calumet was seen eight years ago today on the Pasty Cam.

Speaking of Calumet, congratulations to the Copper Kings Football team, traveling to Boyne City this weekend to face the Ramblers in the first battle of this year's Playoffs. Remember the bet between the Governor's of Michigan and California a couple of years ago? It ended with Mr. Schwartzenneger graciously devouring a delicious Pasty Central pasty.

Ahnold
Well, a similar wager has been made between the directors of the respective "Main Street" organizations in Boyne City and Calumet. If Calumet wins (of which we are supremely confident), Boyne City's Main Street Executive Director, Hugh Conklin, will humbly wear a Copper King's sweatshirt and crown while he is consoled with the U.P.'s most famous comfort food from Pasty Central. If the final score is in favor of Boyne City, Calumet's own Tom Tikkanen has agreed to submit to some equally humiliating abuse :o)

You can hear the live play-by-play action on Saturday at 3:30pm by tuning to Pasty.NET on the Internet dial. Let's see which team comes out on top!

Good Friday Morning everyone!

Mr. Deb
First Post

By Grace M Wetton (Gmw) on Friday, October 26, 2007 - 07:57 am:

Good Morning everyone. 35 degrees and clear here in Houghton.

By Koke (Pjk3000) on Friday, October 26, 2007 - 08:04 am:

Good morning everyone, from cool damp and foggy Northeast Wisconsin. Wishing I was sitting on the deck at the old family home outside of Dollar Bay looking out over Portage Lake. Hey Chuck wouldn't that be the place to be right now!

By Marianne Y (Marianne) on Friday, October 26, 2007 - 08:05 am:

Good Morning, Everyone. TGIF, Happy Friday, y'all. It's supposed to be a rainy day here, so here's hoping the rains will clear out in time for the play-off football games tonight and tomorrow. Good luck to all whose favorite teams are in the play-offs this weekend. Take care.

By Pennie (Trolldiva) on Friday, October 26, 2007 - 08:07 am:

Good going Mr.Deb!!!

By Cindy Pihlaja Russell (Gone2long) on Friday, October 26, 2007 - 08:10 am:

My goodness, The Honorable Arnold S makes that pasty look small in his giant mitt. Where's catsup? Doesn't he know the rules???

By Koke (Pjk3000) on Friday, October 26, 2007 - 08:12 am:

Oh Ya, forgot to wish everyone in this weekends rally good luck and have a safe race. Ed I hope your team places high. Tell your driver to keep it on the wheels and off the roof this year.

By Marsha, Genesee/Aura (Marsha) on Friday, October 26, 2007 - 08:16 am:

We're not going to do the catsup/gravy thing again are we? LOL

By Janie T. (Bobbysgirl) on Friday, October 26, 2007 - 08:30 am:

Only Maria knows what Arnie likes with his pasties.

By Brooke (Lovethekeweenaw) on Friday, October 26, 2007 - 09:29 am:

Notice the Vernors?

By derek tuoriniemi (Derek) on Friday, October 26, 2007 - 09:30 am:

check out that 'Pasty Pillow'

By FJL (Langoman) on Friday, October 26, 2007 - 09:39 am:

Dumping catsup on food makes all food taste the same. All you taste is catsup. A good pasty stands alone, needs nothing else. Why would you want to hide the great flavors of a Hut Inn pasty???

By Ray Laakaniemi (Rlaakan) on Friday, October 26, 2007 - 09:46 am:

Isn't anyone going to send Arnold some Toivo and Eino sauce?

By sharon gregorich (Sharong) on Friday, October 26, 2007 - 09:49 am:

TGIF and the Soo takes on Bay City John Glenn tonight in Football. LSSU Lakers have a home hockey game tonight also.
I eat my pasty with Chow Chow Some people have never heard of Chow Chow over here in the Soo.

By Grace M Wetton (Gmw) on Friday, October 26, 2007 - 10:05 am:

A partridge hit our living room window while I was vacuuming just a little while ago, darn near scared the "----" out of me. I would say about a 3 pound bird or so. Guess I'm in store for bad luck????

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Friday, October 26, 2007 - 10:34 am:

Or dinner, Grace!
Mr. Deb

By Snowman (Snowman) on Friday, October 26, 2007 - 10:36 am:

FJL, sounds like an advertisement.

By FJL (Langoman) on Friday, October 26, 2007 - 10:38 am:

Why not, they are great.......

By k j (Kathiscc) on Friday, October 26, 2007 - 11:03 am:

I also prefer my pasties with nothing on them. Ketchup? Yuck. Destroys the flavor of a good pasty. Ketchup is for burgers and french fries.

By Grace M Wetton (Gmw) on Friday, October 26, 2007 - 11:37 am:

Dinner is out of the question for the bird that once was alive, hubby hauled it away with a shovel.

By Marsha, Genesee/Aura (Marsha) on Friday, October 26, 2007 - 12:09 pm:

Here's a question for you: I have an old child's sled that I bought a few years ago from an estate sale in Laurium. It has "Marswell's" on it. I hope I got that right. Sounds like it was maybe the name of a hardware in that area years ago. Any info anyone?

By Pennie (Trolldiva) on Friday, October 26, 2007 - 03:45 pm:

Derek the pillow looks like a smaller version of your great costume! That costume is the best! I get a kick out of it everytime I see it.

By Snowman (Snowman) on Friday, October 26, 2007 - 03:56 pm:

I had heard that the tin miners would just drop the pasties down the mine so they could use the pasties as wheel chocks under the car's wheels to stop the car from rolling down the hill. :)
What a waste, eh?

By Brooke (Lovethekeweenaw) on Friday, October 26, 2007 - 03:59 pm:

Depends on who made the pasty, snowman.

By k j (Kathiscc) on Friday, October 26, 2007 - 04:28 pm:

I love Vernors. Gets a little scarce down here, tough. We have to go to a store 30 miles away to get it.

By Snowman (Snowman) on Friday, October 26, 2007 - 06:20 pm:

Must not have had rutabaga in them, eh?
Have a great weekend! :o)

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Friday, October 26, 2007 - 06:50 pm:

I prefer pasties without ketchup also. Why ruin a great pasty? And believe me, my pasties are VERY good!!!! You definitely need rutabaga!

By Snowman (Snowman) on Friday, October 26, 2007 - 06:58 pm:

Rutabaga is Yooper "soul food". Oh, and you have to have Michigan grown potatoes in it. Don't forget to make the crust with lard and a splash of vinegar. I feel at home right now, ahhh. :o) The simple life is the best life.

By David Hiltunen (Davidcorrytontn) on Friday, October 26, 2007 - 09:44 pm:

Miracle Whip on a Pasty, good if you gotta eat it cold, this comming from someone who likes peanutbutter and onion sandwich.

Grace under fire for not roasting that Partridge,do you know how much that would of cost on the menu?

Kathy;check out Kroger's for Vernors, any one who comes to visit me from MI.must bring it with them to get in.

Rodger Somero; Wondering if your okay out west?

Koke;good to see your post, come back more often.

By Grace M Wetton (Gmw) on Friday, October 26, 2007 - 11:11 pm:

David H.-
Excuse me??? I prefer not to EAT partridge, thank you.

By Roger Somero (Rsomero) on Saturday, October 27, 2007 - 03:30 am:

David, thanks for asking. No fires here, but unbelievable destruction down south. We live about 350 miles north of all of that.

By k j (Kathiscc) on Saturday, October 27, 2007 - 08:22 am:

David- so where would I find a Kroger's? Guess I'd have to go to Michigan for that, and then I could find it most anywhere.

By FRNash/PHX, AZ (Frnash) on Saturday, October 27, 2007 - 12:02 pm:

k j (Kathiscc):
"so where would I find a Kroger's?"

By k j (Kathiscc) on Saturday, October 27, 2007 - 04:00 pm:

Ok thanks. Can't believe you did that that.

By k j (Kathiscc) on Saturday, October 27, 2007 - 04:00 pm:

Oops! Only one that!

By David Hiltunen (Davidcorrytontn) on Saturday, October 27, 2007 - 04:57 pm:

I did not know you are a Vegan Grace. Just thought you didn't want to pluck, clean, and cook it.

I thought Kroger's were in evey state, a national food store chain. We have them here in TN.Vernor's is expensive there however.

Jarmo Itdiemi (Japei)Where in the world did you disapear to?

By Fran in GA (Francesinga) on Sunday, November 4, 2007 - 08:50 pm:

Dave, no more Krogers in this part of Tn. They have been gone a long time. I have been wondering about Japei also. He hasn't e-mailed me for quite awhile. I hope he and his family are well.

By FRNash/PHX, AZ (Frnash) on Sunday, November 4, 2007 - 10:37 pm:

I think maybe Jarmo Itäneimi (Japei) headed for the tall grass after the web site that hosted one of the videos he posted here was banned from Pastyland.

I hope that didn't scare him off!
