Part of the Bridgefest Patrol from eight years ago on the Pasty Cam. Never know when those cardboard boats might stray into the shipping lanes.

Good morning from Gwinn. It's 42 outdoors right now. We had a sever thunderstorm come though the Marquette area yesterday afternoon. High winds & 3 inch diameter size hail came down. Some cars & homes were damaged by the hail. It looked like snow on the ground. We'll remember Linda's 40th birthday that's for sure. Hope we have a nice day today.

First Day of Summer! It arrives today at 2:06PM

By Theresa R Brunk (Trb0013) on Thursday, June 21, 2007 - 06:06 am:

Good Morning from Tampa, Florida. I know most of you are friends from childhood in most cases, and I have felt very homesick at times with all the shared memories on this wonderful website. I have been blessed to have found it. Today marks my brother Michael's 59 and a half birthday. Since he was born on the Winter Soltice, he always celebrated his half birthday too. Please keep Michael C. Brunk in your prayers so that the person responsible for his death on Christmas day 2005, is brought to justice.

Marquette's hail storm made it on CNN yesterday! I came back from camp at 5PM and found plowed "snow banks" of hail at the Beefaroo intersection and the streets full of leaves and branches. I dreaded to see our house and yard. Half the oak leaves are down and our garden is flat, the lilly pond is trashed and perrenials and annuals torn up. The glass sun room made it through ok but two windows on the north side are broken. The Marquette Golf Course is closed to assess the damage, hopefully the greens are ok, they were in the best condition ever yesterday morning.

By Brooke (Lovethekeweenaw) on Thursday, June 21, 2007 - 07:15 am:

That was quite a storm, we haven't had any strong ones down here yet this year. I like to watch them come in, and watch the lightning. Don't like the damage they do though. Hope everybody had minimal damage.

Good Morning from Houghton. 54 degrees and blue sky.

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Thursday, June 21, 2007 - 07:29 am:

Good morning! We had quite the storms here in central MN too, but thankfully, we had no damage. The hail was more like the size of a dime. We needed the water, but I hate severe storms.

Good Morning!

By kosk in Toronto (Koskintoronto) on Thursday, June 21, 2007 - 07:41 am:

There were big storms in Toronto too. Trees down and power out
in several locales, but nothing like the pictures of hail that I saw in
yesterday's "Mining Journal."

Experienced a storm like this once when my children were babies and we were staying in a cottage on Portage near Houghton. Golf-ball size hail fell to about 3 inches deep. The storm retreated down the canal, then we watched in horror as it came back, but it was then torrential rain, causing 6 inch deep ice water. I was with the babies, rest were golfing @ Keweenaw Mt. Lodge. They had only sun and couldn't believe it when they returned because it was a very warm day and all the ice water had run down into the canal.

In reference to the Pasty cam shot, last summer bringing the grandkids to the UP, the youngest had quite a reaction to the "scenery." (She's a native Texan, now)"Ashley, what do you see outside the window." Ashley says, "Trees, Whoop-Di-Doo."

By Cindy Pihlaja Russell (Gone2long) on Thursday, June 21, 2007 - 09:29 am:

Today is my daughter Erin's 26th birthday. Where has the time gone??? I recall it was a hot one with a whopper of a thunderstorm the day she was born here in Lansing. I made a caramel pecan cheesecake and delivered it to her office this morning. Should have cut myself a piece before I dropped it off. What was I thinking??

By Brooke (Lovethekeweenaw) on Thursday, June 21, 2007 - 09:57 am:

Margaret, I had to ban my kids from playing "I spy" while in the UP. Its just like in the movie "Brother Bear" tree, tree, tree. I asked if they wanted to walk from Newberry to the Soo.

By Marianne Y (Marianne) on Thursday, June 21, 2007 - 10:34 am:

Good Morning you all! Somehow the severe storms managed to go around us last night here in mid-Michigan, so we just had some heavy rain & wind (but not damaging, at least that I'm aware of). The best part for us was that the outdoor band concert that we went to was over & all of the chairs & music stands were put away before the first rain drop fell. (My youngest son plays in this city band that has concerts every Wed Night.)

I hope that no one had serious damage from the severe storms!

Uncle Chuck, What in the world were you doing on here at 5:33 AM. Couldn't sleep?? Congratulations on the early bird!! Hope you are feeling better today.

By Margaret, Amarillo TX (Margaret) on Thursday, June 21, 2007 - 04:42 pm:

Brooke, we fixed her, made her say it so much between St. Ignace and Wisconsin, she got the hint. But I do like the idea of Newberry to the Soo. It would be a treat for me and Dad. eh--she's a born in Texas kid and will have to take Mission trips to the Gulf--that'll change her mind about trees.

By Marianne Y (Marianne) on Thursday, June 21, 2007 - 11:34 pm:

Cindy, your caramel pecan cheesecake sounds wonderful! Is there any chance you will part with the recipe? I would love to have it! :-)

Yesterday, the day before the first day of summer, was a long day here in mid-Michigan, in that the sun went down late. It was light late enough that I could knit on my sock throughout the entire outdoor concert (with no artificial lighting) last night! The concert was over about 9:30 pm.

I hope everyone has a great summer, now that summer is here!
