Eight years ago, the Pasty Cam caught some snowmobilers at a popular stopping spot. The whine of the snowmobile has just started to be heard in the Keweenaw -- and there is lake effect expected tonight.

Morning all wondered why you were so quiet Deb

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Thursday, January 18, 2007 - 08:31 am:

Just got back in here to check my new messages before leaving for work, Mikie. Just finished breakfast and now I have to leave. Luckily I was in time to see the picture of the day. Morning, Mikie!

You can't just turn back the clock, but you can wind it up again, GROUNDHOG DAY is just over the hill!

By Capt. Paul (Eclogite) on Thursday, January 18, 2007 - 08:57 am:

That was profound!!!

Good morning peeps from chilly, wet Houston.

By Cindy Pihlaja Russell (Gone2long) on Thursday, January 18, 2007 - 09:02 am:

Good morning back atcha, eh! It's almost the weekend and we can sleep in. Woo hoo!! Don't you wish you could have all those naps back you refused to take when you were a kid?

By Gonna be a Yooper (Joanie) on Thursday, January 18, 2007 - 09:05 am:

We don't have to wait for "Phil's" prediction from Pennsylvania, we have a groundhog that has lived under our garage foundation for years. We call him, "Hoggy Doggy Daddy"! His only bad habits are the year he started to gnaw on the siding, then the deck. He's really become part of this house, he's eating it!

By Dr. Nat (Drnat) on Thursday, January 18, 2007 - 09:10 am:

Good morning everyone! I had a nice day off work yesterday, but I think the storm was a little disappointing. We got just enough ice to cancel classes, but not enough ice to put on my skates and beat Capt. Paul at a friendly game of hockey in the street!

To see some pics of Lake Superior in a rage, go to JohnDee.com click onto General Discussions then click onto Why Mother Superior Wins. Pictures are awesome!

Forgot to add after clicking onto General Discussions, then click onto Misc. then click onto Why Mother Superior Wins. Sorry about that.

By Paul Oesterle (Paulwebbtroll) on Thursday, January 18, 2007 - 09:47 am:

Good morning all! Hey Joanie, please don't take this personally, but Hoggy, Doggy, Daddy needs to go. How long has he been boarding under your garage? Woodchucks are about #1 on my public enemy list! Go to the Guest Photo Gallery. Click on Kim Weed, go down 3 rows and in from the left two pictures. Click on that picture. I keep a sharp eye out for these buggers! Mid 30's forecast for today. Maybe we will lose some ice off our trees and antennas. Our wireless is just starting to work again!

By joanne sherick (Shedoesnails) on Thursday, January 18, 2007 - 09:50 am:

Good Morning all.
I just wanted to take the time to thank those of you who have sent emails with your concerns of my grandparents who lost their home to a house fire here in mid michigan. grandma and grandpa are both doing fine.they made it out safely but the house is a total loss.grandma and grandpa are in their late 80's and have been married 60 years. the home they lost I can see from my kitchen window. the home has been in the family for 50 years and was a historical home. the loss has been very emotional but we have grandma & grandpa so the rest we can overcome. thank you again and please continue to keep us in your prayers.

By Marsha, Genesee/Aura (Marsha) on Thursday, January 18, 2007 - 09:55 am:

Those are amazing pictures, Janie! Thanks for pointing them out to us.

By Cindy Pihlaja Russell (Gone2long) on Thursday, January 18, 2007 - 09:56 am:

Joanne -- you are definitely blessed to have your grandma and grandpa. I have no grandparents and only one parent left. You can make more memories.

By fy1 (Formeryooper1) on Thursday, January 18, 2007 - 10:18 am:

Saw this before, pictures were actually in the North Atlantic - the land in the first shot is Scotland, from what I remember. The website boatnerd ? had tne information on the pictures. So it is not Superior, though it probably would look similar during a November storm.

By Gonna be a Yooper (Joanie) on Thursday, January 18, 2007 - 10:24 am:

Paul, Hoggy has lived here for at least 10 years. "Hoggy Doggy Mama", who lived under the shed foundation, was the problem, too many kids. She was hit by a car several years ago. We are planning on getting out of here in a few years, let the new owners deal with "Hoggy"!

By Rowdy (Roudymi) on Thursday, January 18, 2007 - 10:50 am:

Those pictures were taken in the Atlantic. Check out Boatnerd to get the strait scoop.

Click here to find out more about it: www.Boatnerd.com Scroll down to "Storm Pictures". Then click on this link: Actual Pictures, for the pictures and comments.

By Daveofmohawk (Daveofmohawk) on Thursday, January 18, 2007 - 11:17 am:

I got an e-mail from a friend and he said that the pics were taken on Lake Superior this past November. I used to work on the lake freighters and saw scenes exactly like the pictures.

By Marsha, Genesee/Aura (Marsha) on Thursday, January 18, 2007 - 11:41 am:

Gormfrog: You are New Yoopers? Explain, please.

By Capt. Paul (Eclogite) on Thursday, January 18, 2007 - 11:51 am:

Since when was it ever a "friendly" game of hockey??

Remember the last time we played hockey at the Dee, and the outcome of that?? :P

By Dr. Nat (Drnat) on Thursday, January 18, 2007 - 01:14 pm:

Yeah, I remember last time we played at the Dee. Some big defenceman hooked me, so I punched him!

By Gonna be a Yooper (Joanie) on Thursday, January 18, 2007 - 01:33 pm:

Hey Capt. Paul and Dr. Nat, now that's real hockey. It's not as entertaining without a few good fights.

By Randall Ollila (Rancher) on Thursday, January 18, 2007 - 02:09 pm:

Afternoon All.
Hockey!! Did someone say there was a game on? Wheres it at? I'll be there. Hoooorah.
Enjoy the day everyone!!!

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Thursday, January 18, 2007 - 02:19 pm:

By RCW (Rcw) on Thursday, January 18, 2007 - 02:33 pm:

We ve been fooled again Dave. I just checked out the boatnerd site. What next

By Gonna be a Yooper (Joanie) on Thursday, January 18, 2007 - 02:34 pm:

Slapshot is a classic! I've watched it over and over again and still laugh!

By Mary Drew at Pasty Central (Mdrew) on Thursday, January 18, 2007 - 02:53 pm:

For those interested in this past Monday's discussion and pictures, I've since received a number of additional interesting photos. The first one here below is from Betty Catalano, who sent me this postcard of the Pine Mountain Ski Jump, dated 1951. Betty says, " The back of the card says that they soar almost 300 ft -- I was there the first time that 300 and more was hit--- now I understand that they get close to 400--" Also, take note of the cars in the photo and the small building at the top of the jump! Thanks Betty!

Pine Mtn. 1951

The next two, are shots that E. Neil Harri took from the air yesterday, Jan. 17, 2007, of the Copper Peak Ski Jump in Gogebic County. Outstanding, Neil, thank you!

Robert - CO (Halork) on Thursday, January 18, 2007 - 02:54 pm:

Our local news here showed some video last night of people surfing in Lake Superior off of Marquette. I've seen some pictures of such activity before; anybody know if this video was recent?

By Capt. Paul (Eclogite) on Thursday, January 18, 2007 - 03:04 pm:

Hey Mary,

Those bottom 2 shots look more like Copper Peak north of Bessemer. I recognize the Black River in the 3rd photo making its bend and the "old" Black River Road going through the lannding area at the bottom.

You're right there Capt. Paul, thanks for correcting my goof! Maybe I should have read Neil's email thoroughly, instead of just scanning it and assuming it was the Pine Mtn. Jump, shame on me!! ;-> I'll go back and correct that right now....

And just to clear things up, the center that night at the Dee deserved the hook!! :P

By Frederic W. Koski (Fred) on Thursday, January 18, 2007 - 03:07 pm:

The video on the news was recent, a few nights back,(maybe last night?).

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Thursday, January 18, 2007 - 03:31 pm:

Wherever it is, them folks is nuts!!!!!!!!!!!!
Mr. Deb

By David Hiltunen (Davidcorrytontn) on Thursday, January 18, 2007 - 03:31 pm:

I watched my old team the Wings beat my new team the Predators last night. We'll get um next time.
The snow and ice storm is coming this way by Sunday.Junkyards will pile up with some spare parts.

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Thursday, January 18, 2007 - 03:36 pm:

Capt. Paul,
Did the center get the extra two for instigating?

By dlp (Babyseal) on Thursday, January 18, 2007 - 03:36 pm:

Robert, I watched a news piece thie week on the local TV6 on the lake surfing on Lady Superior in Marquette. My take on it was that it was pretty recent! Brrrrrrrrrrr

By Dr. Nat (Drnat) on Thursday, January 18, 2007 - 03:52 pm:

Deserved the hook! Why? Because I was going to score?

By Gonna be a Yooper (Joanie) on Thursday, January 18, 2007 - 04:04 pm:

Oh boy, hockey fight breakin' out on Pasty Cam! Cha-Cha, you better break it up!!

By Brooke (Lovethekeweenaw) on Thursday, January 18, 2007 - 04:09 pm:

I am convinced the only reason they have Pro Hockey teams in the south is so that the snow birds can watch their team play without heading north.

By Gonna be a Yooper (Joanie) on Thursday, January 18, 2007 - 05:36 pm:

Ya know what I think? I think if more married couples played hockey against each other, they would relieve a lot of tension and have less fights. Gotta go, hubby is home and I gotta put my skates on and kick some butt! He's not gonna know what hit him, hee, hee, hee!

By Greta Armata (Gretania) on Thursday, January 18, 2007 - 06:35 pm:

Those are great shots of both Pine Mountain and Copper Peak. My father used to take pictures at the Pine Mountain jumps between 1945-1951 or so. He had quite a few friends that were jumpers, but he had a bad knee so only took pictures. When Copper Peak was built, my father worked the ski flying competitions there as well. I remember going to either the 1st or 2nd one. Seeing those guys flying through the air was really something. Lots of international ski flyers would come for those competitions.

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Thursday, January 18, 2007 - 06:58 pm:

WOW! Those people are crazy! They'd have to be! I get the goose bumps just looking at that. 2 steps on a ladder is high enough for me and I'm NOT kidding!
