The weather here in the Keweenaw has been absolutely great lately with temperatures in the melting zone for several weeks now, so the snow piles have all but disappeared. Of course where they've been pushed, piled or blown into large mounds, you can still find some accumulation to play in, like Krista Poirier's kids did recently. That first shot is Bode, who's looking pretty "cool" in his shorts and t-shirt, striking a pose in the hollowed out snow-bank. This also represents another past time in the U.P. come spring, which John Dee (Pasty Central's meteorolgist) recently named "re-shoveling". That's when us Yoopers shovel the snow in the leftover piles like this one, and spread it out on the road so it will melt faster in the sun! Check out the artistic talents of Kyleigh in the other two photos. She not only built a snow castle, which is melting at an accelerated rate, but she also adorned it with some of nature's leftovers from the fall and winter season, along with a touch of color from items she found around the yard! Leave it to the kids to enjoy the snow to the very end!

Great picture, only in the UP

By Tim in Oscoda (Timmer280) on Thursday, April 20, 2006 - 07:34 am:

Awesome shots! Looks like they are having fun.

Is Bode signing "I Love You" to his Grandmother? (or is that just a lucky snapshot bonus?)

Either way...Great pictures kids!

Great "snow" pictures.

Morning All.
Heartwarming to see young people use their ingenuity to have a little fun. Enjoy the day everyone. (take your cue from the photos above)

Like Tim, I was wondering if Bode was signing "I love you."

The grass, out in beautiful downtown Jacobsville, is starting to
green up. A little more rain, and it will go wild :-) And the
forecast says rain, rain, rain!

I need to reshovel the banks in front of my house. We
still have piles yet where the snowplow tried to bury us.
Our garden fence, which is 2 feet tall, is sticking through
the snow in the backyard. I guess we won't have any
snow for the 4th of July.

It's time to snow-blow under the clothsline so you can hang them out to dry.My Mom used to wash in-Tide,to cold out-tide.

What beautiful children and I just love that castle!

By Cindy, St. Clair Shores, MI (Cindy) on Thursday, April 20, 2006 - 10:12 pm:

I bet those kids would love to have that snow cave to sit in on a hot summer day. Cute pictures!

Man how I miss the those wonderful childhood years when you could go outside with snow on the ground while wearing shorts and be "cool". My poor kids here in FL get cold if its below 75 degrees and they wouldn't be caught dead outside in the winter in Michigan! They think that snow is something that comes in a cone and has flavored syrup added to it and you eat! (This state would come to a grinding halt if it were to snow...and yes, it snows in FL. The last time it snowed near Tampa where I am was in 1993 and the locals remember it like it was yesterday!) Of course, they are complaining already that it is too hot as well. It was only 91 today. Can't never seem to make m'happy no way, no how!

All joking aside though, my continued thanks to the great folks at Pasty.com for keeping this site up and running and allowing me to visit "home" in some of the most beautiful lands God ever created. Da UP, eh. Thanks again from sunny west central Florida.

David, The Tide thing was hilarious. I do like the pictures. I remember days like that in the UP. Does anyone still say "pank the snow" UP there anymore? When I moved away I got to thinking one day what in the world pank really meant anyway. I only here it in the UP. Sure enough, it's NOT in the dictionary. I think I've mentioned this one other time but don't remember if anybody besides my folks still use that word.

No way...It's a snow wave! Surf's up...Yooper style!
