Flag day is the day we commemorate the adoption of the flag of the United States and so we fly ours all around the U.P. and across the nation, too. Our Pasty Cam flags today come to us via Kim Weed and W.R. Maki, respectively. Both of these photographers gift us with a unique view of the flag, both in the setting sun and in the night time skies, amongst the Houghton/Hancock night lights. This is what you call viewing The Stars and Stripes in "blazing glory."

Happy Flag Day... don't forget to fly yours proudly today.

Cool, Janie!!!! I have to put a little flag out in our yard because right now we redid our steps and have to wait to get our large flag out flying. Thanks for the idea!!

You're a Grand Old Flag
by George M. Cohan

You're a grand old flag,
You're a high flying flag
And forever in peace may you wave.
You're the emblem of
The land I love.
The home of the free and the brave.
Ev'ry heart beats true
'neath the Red, White and Blue,
Where there's never a boast or brag.
Should auld acquaintance be forgot,
Keep your eye on the grand old flag.

You're a grand old flag,
You're a high flying flag
And forever in peace may you wave.
You're the emblem of
The land I love.
The home of the free and the brave.
Ev'ry heart beats true
'neath the Red, White and Blue,
Where there's never a boast or brag.
Should auld acquaintance be forgot,
Keep your eye on the grand old flag.

I was able to participate with the Patriot Guard Riders at the recent funeral visitation for Spc. Robert Voakes Jr.

I get goosebumps thinking about it. What an absolute honor to hold this beautiful flag during such an honorable time. It makes me cry. And it makes me incredibly humble.

God Bless America. God Bless all our Troops, Veterans, Patriots.....

We are Free because of the BRAVE! Fly your flag and be proud!

I have never ridden in the honor rides. Our neighbor lost his son in law last summer. When I was walking home from work, I turned the corner onto my street. There were all the flags lining both sides blowing gentling. I finished my walk in full blown tears. It will be a wonderful memory.

Laurie--Thanks for providing us with the words to "You're a Grand
Old Flag." It' good to see you on here again. We thought of you
often.

We also fly our flag at our house every day. When our flag gets fadded, tattered or torn we bring it to our VFW for them to disperse of it properly. I've seen some really old tattered flags flying at some public places & have even reminded them that maybe they should purchase a new flag & how to dispose of the old one properly. I don't think that was wrong of me,do you??

By Ken ja Mimi from da UP (Kenjamimi) on Tuesday, June 14, 2011 - 10:42 pm:

Thank you too, Laurie, for the words to the song.
Mimi and I sang it as we were doing our pastycam evening. It's a good song! Pytavay, our flag is out every day, too.
