Peak colors here in the Keweenaw have already come, yet there is still some color to see, depending where you're touring. On the Pasty Cam, though, we're still checking out the colors that bloomed so beautifully this year.

Hop on board, we're cruising with Bob Gilreath again today, first to the old Sidnaw Depot, which still has a set of active tracks in use there. I'm guessing at some point in time it was more active than now, but nice to know there are still a few trains in use here UP North. The second photo is the railroad line from Rockland to Ontonagon, which you can see have been pulled for the most part.

Bob's third shot is a pond outside of Rockland in full color and then the fourth picture a hillside in full bloom, I'm not quite sure exactly where, but in that same general area, I'm guessing.

The last stop today is at the Victoria Dam and the Reservoir there, too. I really like the rich colors of the bushes alongside the edges of the dam and the grass still nice and green.

All these fall colors remind me of this quote from Albert Camus - "Autumn is a second spring, where every leaf is a flower."
Enjoy today's flowers!

I like that quote, Mary.
These are outstanding photos ~ thanks, Bob!

Abandon railways make for a great way to see Nature's beauty!

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Wednesday, October 15, 2014 - 07:49 pm:

Agreed, Janie! I love them too. Beautiful pictures!
I'm so happy we actually have color out here this
year, too. That's not normal because we usually have
such drought conditions in July and August which
makes the leaves fall off before they have time to
turn. Sure am enjoying autumn this year!

An interesting fact. In the last photo, just around the point on the left, is where the Ontonagon Boulder was found, and also where Alexander Henry made an attempt to mine for copper in 1771; needless to say, it failed miserably!

Outstanding! I especially love the third photo but all
are wonderful. i miss the trains.

I do like the picture of the Sidnaw depot. That is pretty neat. I wish the trains would come back. They are a huge part of the making of America.

Oh yes indeedy, Mary, it sure was. But that surely wasn't the Sidnaw passenger depot, perhaps some railroad utility shack like the Eagle Mills Yard scale house shown in (click →) Cam Notes of Sunday, September 7, 2003.

The Sidnaw passenger depot was more like the Covington Depot shown in (click →) Cam Notes of Sunday, August 25, 2002

Way back in the late 1940s to the early 1950s, mom and I used to ride the DSS&A ("Dust, Sand, Soot & Ashes," a.k.a. "'Darn' Slow Service & Abuse") from St. Iggy to Bruce Crossing. In the years after passenger service to Bruce Crossing was terminated, our train trip ended at the Sidnaw passenger depot, and granddad had to fetch us from there to the family farm in his 1948 Ford pick'em-up truck.

We have trains running constantly out here. They are
very annoying, but for the most part, I love trains.
Just not when it's making me late for work :-)

Trains are one of my favorite things. Sidnaw did have a nice passenger depot and was a busy intersection. I liked the old Victoria dam with the arches.

Beautiful, colorful pictures. Thank you, Bob G. & Mary.

Beautiful!
