Kathy Archambeau and her granddaughter, Emma Carlton (age 10), recently made the drive from the Houghton area, to Marquette together, with Kathy doing the driving and Emma behind the camera viewfinder while the car was moving. But once the vehicle stopped to check out the wild flowers, the two took turns snapping photos of all the beauty nature dots our roadsides with.

Kathy told me in her message that she felt like she was in "wild flower heaven", when she saw the blanket of mostly daisies, with boldly colored lupines to complete the vision. I'm certainly glad that Kathy and Emma "stopped to smell the flowers" during their travels and then so willingly shared them with us all.

I love all flowers but I think wild ones are my favorite.

Janie, I just checked your profile pic ~ that's terrible!

a pesky little squirrel dug up and kicked out, half a pot of dirt and flowers, all over the porch. that is what squirrels do. ;O)

And don't I see some Indian paintbrushes among the daisies?

Shirley that is the type of weather my neck of the woods has been having for the past 3 weekends. Either tornadoes, straight line winds and golf ball size hail. Almost getting used to it.

I first discovered wild lupines along the highway between White Pine and Silver City. My folks lived in White Pine about 1979 and I really liked the area. And the lupines were stunning.

By Tom (Tom) on Tuesday, July 8, 2014 - 05:40 pm:

I was in the Copper Country this past weekend. We drove up the east coast from Gay to Bete Gres. Two things we observed. 1st, the lake level is really high. What once was rather wide beaches now are very narrow. 2nd The lupines near to Bete Gres were really beautiful. Wont send any as today's pics pretty well say it all.
We drove across the peninsula and stopped at Great Sand Bay and found the beach there also was very narrow. I think even Lake Michigan is closer to a higher "normal" level. Quite the recovery from low levels of the past several years.
Janie T, I sure hope tornados don't drop down in your area. We lived in west central Illinois for many years and had many threats of tornados. Here in the Tundra Land they are pretty rare.

Tom, our son and his family lived in Champaign, IL back in the 1980s and seems they were always dodging tornadoes. They now live in PA.;)

About the lupines ~ if they grow 'wild', why did the ones I planted not come up the next year? hmmm

What fabulous shots of the lupines and daisies. Thanks for sharing
them with us. I was a little too late to see the lupines when I arrived
in this neck of the U.P. on July 5th.
