In case you haven't heard, the U.P. has broken a record for the most consecutive days with temperatures below freezing. I don't know what the official count is, but I know it's over 73 days. I have to tell you, though, I could have lived without breaking THAT record! Even my 11 year old grandson told me the other day, how great it was to be able to go outside for recess again.

All the cold we've had has kept many folks indoors and not able to get out to enjoy winter activities, so when the sun was shining and the temps rose just a bit, Judy Byykkonen headed out into the woods for a snowshoe walk. She sure encountered some beauty along the way and many mounds of snow weighing down the trees, bending some right over to touch the ground.

I was surprised to see her photo of the Traprock River open and running, since we've heard so much talk about Lake Superior being frozen over this year. I guess the Traprock must run rapidly enough that it doesn't get a chance to freeze right over. Kind of nice to see that open water, gives me hope that perhaps spring is really just around the corner, despite all the snow on the ground.

Judy's last photo is my favorite, though. The top of that pine tree peeking out of the snow and the shadow it casts, looks like a hand raised up, reminding me of the cartoon going around that says if you've had enough of winter, raise your hand!

Excellent photography!

"Pine Tree" is probably a Spruce (or Balsam).

Nicely done, love the bright blue skies and running water. With all the snow this winter, the spring runoff and waterfalls should be spectacular..."PHOTO ALERT"!

The running water is the best picture of all. A nice harbinger of warmer days to come.

Mary, 'winter' must've seen my 'hand' ~ our snow is about gone!
Pretty pix, Judy.

OK The last picture is of the top of an 8 foot tree. RIGHT?
