The Chickadees have been busy around Melanie Hakala Rossi's house this winter. They're busy little birds and they have to work extra hard to make it through the winters here in the Copper Country. Especially this year…you can see why in Melanie's 4th photo, with all the snow piled up on the roof of the feeder.

Then she spotted a Blue Jay hiding in the branches of that tree in the bottom photo, with some kind of winter treat held tight in its beak. Sure hope the snow up above it doesn't let go while it is sitting there.

Whenever I watch the birds at the feeder in the wintertime, I always wonder how they keep warm and safe during the winter storms and cold we get here UP North. Sure hope they have extra down this year.

Beautiful picture of the Blue Jay!

Have been thinking about how all the birds have been handling this Winter. Would bet the feeders have been making all the difference!

Beautiful! We're not seeing many birds out here. It's to cold for even them.

Have a great day!

Lovely pix, Melanie! Thanks.
I haven't seen any chickadees around since winter started but the Blue Jays are always around....and the Starlings and Cardinals. I throw out bread crumbs/etc. for them, which they seem to appreciate. They look so pitiful in this cold weather.

Birds are such fun to watch. An Allegan ploice officer took a picture of a flock of Robins in a spruce in his yard. They came back way to soon.

I forgot the Sparrows, have lots of them ~ they are the most piitiful 'cause they're so small.:<

Just looked out at my bird feeder, there is 3 robins feeding. Is this a good sign or maybe 3 not so smart Robins?

Nice detail and I like the collagen lips on BJ.

Chickadees look so sincere. I especially love the Winston Churchill
stance of the first chickadee. Birds certainly do lighten up the cold
months for us. Melanie: what a spectacular photograph of the
chickadee in flight. Thanks for sharing these with us.

You're very observant, Kosk, I see what you mean...those little wings (arms) crossed behind him.

By Thomas Baird (Thomas) on Tuesday, January 28, 2014 - 04:22 am:

Beautiful bird pics.

So brave and hardy, these favorite little acrobats, to stick out the Northern winters. And always cheerful.
