When Barb Bouwkamp saw the fog and frost surrounding everything on Quincy Hill recently, she had to stop and snap some photos to share with us all. With the fog enveloping the Quincy Mine buildings, it sure gives them an even more abandoned and eerie look. My favorite is the one of the train engine, even though the fog isn't so much shrouding it, there's still a feeling that there could be a ghost driver inside, ready to take off on some wild adventure, like in the movie Polar Express.

Barb's last photo was also taken up on Quincy Hill, in what used to be known as Franklin location, if I'm not mistaken. For many years this was a church for the local residents there, but it has sat empty for some time and was for sale at one point. I'm uncertain if it is still for sale now, or if it has a new owner. Does anyone out there in Pasty Land remember the name of this parish church and some history on it, too? Help me out here folks!

Great photos, Barb! Having been a 'railroad kid' my favorite is the engine too, Mary.

Those are all great pictures. The steam no longer makes the whistle blow nor makes the big wheels churn but there was a time.....

Special thanks to Pete Nutini who identified the church in the last photo for me. It's Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church.
Pete said that he and his wife were married in that little church on a very stormy night, Jan. 28, 1967.

With the name in hand, I was able to do a Google Search and find a little more info:
"Our Lady of Mount Carmel, Franklin Mine: This small parish was founded in 1910 and served many Italian, Irish, and Slavic families who worked for Quincy Mining Company. It was also the parish the French Canadians of the Frenchtown location used. It closed in 1981 and became part of Resurrection parish in Hancock."

Thanks again, Pete! :-)

Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church was a lovely little church back in the day. We attended many times when I was young. Some of my family were baptized there. Often the priest that served Dollar Bay and Hubbell catholic churches would say mass there.
