Even when the weather isn’t at its optimum, a walk along the Portage Canal that separates Houghton and Hancock, is still a treat. We get to join Aladino Mandoli on a walk he took just a few days back, with the fog hanging over the trees and water.

Not exactly the best day to be out on the lake, but the Coast Guard was cruising along, the geese were lounging on the pier and gliding into the water, the docks were vacant and the old mining buildings across the way in Ripley were sitting there shrouded in fog, making them look more eerie than ever.

Dino’s last photo looks like the perfect setting for a movie, where any minute now, you’ll see the image of miners long past, coming and going from the buildings. History in the fog.

Fabulous photos, Mr. Mandoli. My husband favors these foggy
pictures of the old mines too. In fact, we have a few framed ones in
our living room here in Toronto.

Nice photos of a spooky-looking Portage, complete with old mines and a Coast Guard vessel cruising around. Thank you, Dino and Mary.

I love foggy pictures but these are even better than
the usual ones. Thanks for sharing.

The old smelter town looks like there have been some
work done on many roofs! I saw pics of a lab a
while ago, kept the info bookmarked until one day I
looked @ the bookmark & it seems some Japanese took
over it - weird!
I sure would like to be able to tour those smelting
town buildings some day...

I love looking at fog in pictures but don't like driving in it. Thanks, Aladino, for taking these shots, and thanks, Mary, for sharing them.
