All around the Keweenaw we're seeing American Robins, busy making nests and preparing for the hatching of their youngsters. Melanie Hakala Rossi, takes us right to the nest to check out the babies, with her zoom lens. We get a first hand look at the process and the newborns, without disturbing the growing family one bit.

These birds sure have nest building down to an art, just look at the pretty blue material that this one laced amongst the rest of the nesting grasses. It sure adds a nice touch to the "home" she created to bring her babies into the world in.

The babies are amazing to watch, too, since they can barely open their eyes at this point, but they sure know how to make a ruckus until they get fed.

Great shots of nature in action. Thanks for sharing, Melanie!

Nice pics...the 4th one reminds me of The Three Sopranos, hitting a high note.

Next to the Mockingbird, robins are my favorite!:>

oh what beautiful and precious photos. Gotta love the Robins-our state bird.

I've seen birds come into our yard and pick up the Golden Retriever hair I've left out there after grooming the dogs. Can only imagine how lovely that is inside their nests! Nature is so creative sometimes.

Like JoAnne I too supply birds with nesting materials. I make a 2"-3" cylinder, about 8" long out of chicken wire, hand it near the bird feeder, fill it with dryer lint. Because some of our pets are long haired the lint makes good nesting. It appears the squirrels use it also.

I love the robin photos today! It's been eons since I've seen a robin, and it is great to see one with nest and young ones, especially closeups! Thank you, Melanie and Mary!

Jaby, the Mockingbird is the state bird of my homestate, Tennessee, but there's also an overabundance of Robins down there. I love the way Robins will stand and look at you when you talk to 'em ~ like they're really listening!;)

A fine tribute to Michigan's State Bird.

Great shots!

We had a nest by the front door and the babies were growing up fast. Decided to get a few pictures of them. They seemed rather camera shy and when i tried to get in closer all 4 'exploded' from the nest! Hope they were ready for the real world!
