If a quick ride to Copper Harbor is what you're looking for, then the best bet is the mode of transportation E. Neil Harri used to capture today's photos. He was flying up around the tip of the Keweenaw and took some great aerial photos around the Keweenaw Mountain Lodge. My favorite is the first one, with the view of the Lodge (you have to look closely, since it's covered in snow) and off in the distance, Brockway Mountain, then further out, Lake Superior. The view doesn't get much better than this in my opinion.

I also found it interesting that the other three photos look like they were shot in black and white, which they weren't. Neil calls that, "winter monochrome". He said it's just how the winter sky coloered it and is actually one of his favorite lights to shoot photos in.

Thanks for taking us along on your winter photo shoot, Neil!

Great shots, Neil.

Sorry we didn't get the shots at Assanins like we had hoped. Edie and I spent the night between Milwaukee and Chicago, on our way down with 500+ pasties to Florida. Maybe will have time for more of an update later. Have a good day :o)

Nice shots! Charlie, I have a couple recent photos from Assinins in my gallery, p.3 of the album called Barns And The Cows Who Loved Them.

Thanks for the ride, Neil!

Nice shots for sure!!

Mary, your caption on the first shot "Way Up North" put me in mind of Johnny Horton's song, "North to Alaska".
Great shots, Neil!

I love the pictures, Neil! Thank you for showing me Cabins 1 and 3 in the winter. Charlie and Edie, hope you're still having a safe run down south with all those delectable pasties. I can't wait to get back UP in July!

WOW!

Charlie's mention of the Assinins reminds me of "yar's" ago when my family was driving pass the area. Shortly after passing, my young daughter asked, "Mother, what is a scared heart fairy?" She was, of course, referring to the "Sacred Heart Friary" sign. (No--she is not dyslexic.)

What "cool" photos today! I always enjoy the aerial pics.

Love the shots of the Keweenaw Mountain Lodge, especially the first one. I can just picture it next summer, standing on the Number 1 tee box and the golf ball sailing, sailing.......

I wish you could still stay at the Keweenaw Lodge cabins in the winter. We had a great time there a few years ago. They kept a certain amount of cabins open for winter guests and it was just quiet, peaceful, and the snow was beautiful.

Nice pictures, my wife and I stayed there one year
and golfed of course.Such a peaceful place.

Neil's aerial pictures are the best! What a treat for us Neil has a plane to provide them!

Keweenaw Mountain Lodge: One of the gems and the pride of Keweenaw County, unfortunate that the county board chose not to be open in the winter. Being open in the winter brought a lot of people to the north end of Keweenaw County and was a huge asset to all the north end businesses.

Neil's shots are always like mind candy. WOW, it must be beautiful to fly around the skys like that.

Cindy, thanks for jogging the memory banks, as winter was a wonderful time to stay in the cabins. I always loved to stay in the ones with the big stone fireplaces. Such fond memories indeed.

The view from the first tee, looking toward Brockway Mountain Drive, challenges the view from any golf course I’ve played on.

Brenda, Those are the ones I'm talking about. I love those cabins!

Have you ever heard this audio variant (2 min + 54 sec, click →): "Tapio Rautavaara - Kohti alaskaa." (Towards Alaska)
