Exactly one month ago, on December 10, 2012, Charlie threw out a challenge for winter photos to use on the daily Pasty Cam pages. We entitled it the "Toast to 2012" and the response was more than we expected, making us extend the displaying of the entries into this new year.

Today concludes these entries with several wintry deck photos from Peg Hardt, who snapped an evening shot of the snow accumulating on her deck, during a recent snow event and then snapped the same scene in the morning to show how much snow had fallen through the night.

The next two photos were sent in by Janie Thomson, from a previous snowmobiling excursion that she and her husband came UP North on. They were at a trail crossroad and had to decide which way to go... so many trails, so little time. They ended up taking trail #3, south to Houghton. Along the way, they found a playground and Janie just had to stop and show everyone what a "swinger" she is.

Our last photo comes to us through a former Yooper, who grew up in Calumet, but now resides in Longview, WA, Sarah Dahl. She and her family went on their annual ski trip the end of December, to Mt. Hood in Oregon, where she snapped a photo that she said reminded her of her days spent skiing and playing in the U.P. snow. Sarah said she comes here daily for her U.P. fix and travels home to the U.P., every other summer whenever possible. You can take the Yooper out of the U.P., but you can't take the U.P. out of the Yooper. ;->

We have our work cut out for us, deciding who we'll name the winner of the Trenary Toast prize now, so stay tuned for the announcement tomorrow. And even though we don't have a contest running or a prize to give away again, please feel free to send in any current U.P. photos to share as the Daily Pasty Cam shot. You can email them directly to me at: mdrew@pasty.com.

The second picture looks like a huge waffle.

The U.P. definitely has many wonderful trails to select from. All leading to wonderful snowmobile vacations!

Janie, your 1st picture reminds me of one I took in Copper Harbor this past summer. I think it got posted on here too and I'd pretty much thought the same thing, lol. There's just not enough time. Nice job!

The first two pictures are definite UP pictures. I remember doing that when I lived there. You'd take a picture before you went to bed, and then one again when you got up. There was usually a huge difference in the amount of snow there. Love them!

And the picture of Mt Hood is spectacular!!

Thanks to everybody for sharing their photos with us today!

Hi
I agree that the second photo reminded me of a waffle. Could it be because I'm posting not that long after breakfast? ;>)

Yesterday we had a lot of black ice here in SE Michigan. Nice white snow is preferable to me (at least in the winter).

I know it's not UP there but I love Sarah's pic of Mt. Hood.

Cool pics!

Had I been thinking, I could have submitted a photo from our excursion to Norway last summer of the still 12 foot snowbanks near the glacier we climbed........ in July no less!!

Great photos, but I have a soft spot for mountains in winter so Mt. Hood is my pick today.

Mt. Hood? Looks like the Houghton County snow dump pile on a big snow year.

By Jeffrey (Wakeham) on Thursday, January 10, 2013 - 10:34 am:

Ahhhh, Mt Hood right here in my back yard, here in Portland. Thank you for posting it. On a clear day Mt Saint Helens also towers over the landscape. Both are beautiful.

By Capt. Paul (Eclogite) on Thursday, January 10, 2013 - 12:36 pm:

Dr. Nat and I were out in Portland in 2009 for the annual GSA Conference and one of our "must-see" visits was to Mt. St. Helens; very impressive, as was Mt. Rainier!!! I remember when we flew into Portland we did so right over Mt. Hood but alas, I didn't have my camera out to shoot any pics.....
