Emily Cobb was here for a quick visit, the last few days of 2012 and sent in the following photos she snapped, for the "Toast to 2012" project. She said it was the first time she visited the area in the winter and that she "loved every (freezing) minute of it, just as much as summer and fall! I'm gonna have to come back often." I sure hope she does and that she remembers to bring her camera when she returns, so we'll get to see more of her view of the Keweenaw.

Today, we start with a neat perspective of Lake Superior shoreline... rocks balancing on sandy perches, with just a trace of snow accumulated against them, too. I always knew Lake Superior rocks were special, but didn't know they had acrobatic talents, too.

After the rock shots, Emily pointed her camera out toward the icy waters, timing her second photo just right, so as to capture some of the spray that explodes when a wave hits the built up ice along the shoreline.

The Big Lake sometimes takes on a darker hue on a cloudy winter day, like the third photo here. The rocks on this section of Superior shoreline, are icy white with frozen waves and a smattering of snow in places, too.

For the last photo, Emily used a technique that's new to me. She said she captured the Cliffs through a foggy window. It sure gives the scene a surreal atmosphere, almost like it was foggy outside when she snapped the shot.

Thanks for sharing the beauty you preserved with the push of your shutter button, Emily!

I love every single picture, but that first one is something that a true photographer would think to catch. Great job, Emily!!

What beautiful pictures Emily has provided for us. Mary's
comments fit perfectly with Emily's photographs. She's the right
person in the right job. Thanks for your daily write ups. Mary!

Great photos, thanks for sharing, Emily! I love the perspective in the first shot; bet you got a little chilly capturing that one.
