In a recent note from Joe Kirkish, he told of the opening of two new establishments on the West side of Copper Harbor.

First, North One Gallery. The owners, Elsebet and Margaret spent some time remodeling the building and getting it set up for a free Library on one side, which is filling rapidly, thanks to donations and the other side houses photographs that Margaret has taken and is selling in the gallery.

Then across the street is the Mini-Golf course opened by Staci Gibson, who also has set up a plant area, where she sells perennials as a sideline. We had the pleasure of golfing the mini-course last fall, when it had first opened up. We all agreed it was a great addition to the town, giving you something fun to do as a family, too.

Be sure to check these new places out on your next drive to Copper Harbor, along with all the other shops and places of interest there. Get there early, because you can spend the entire day seeing all that the Harbor has to offer.

Sorry for the delayed Pasty Cam today everybody. A short, fierce wind storm yesterday afternoon knocked down trees and power lines out on the Keweenaw Peninsula, where this daily visit originates. Even though we had power here in Eagle River this morning, Eagle Harbor was still out until later in the day. Our Internet west and east of Brockway Mountain reaches points beyond through a series of relays, of which a major one is Eagle Harbor. So Copper Falls, Great Sand Bay, Eagle River, and Five Mile Point Rd (all the way to Sunset Bay) were down until the UPPCO guys did their heavy lifting.

In Copper Harbor Pasty.NET and UPPCO work together, with our Internet service relaying their radio signals back to Houghton. I guess the power came up sooner on that side of the mountain.

It is an interesting place to live and work, and we are delighted to bring you pictures every day from our 'neck of the woods', as well as all over the U.P. Sometimes that can just be a little challenging :o)

Can't wait until August when I'll for sure get to Copper Harbor to visit both of these places. Thanks for sharing!

Welcome back, Mary and Charlie. Really sorry to hear you had so much trouble UP there. Seems 'mother nature' throws all of us a curve now and then. Thanks for all you do! It's very much appreciated!:)

I love the idea of a library, to hold a book while reading instead of one of those book readers, besides, if you fall asleep with one of those book readers- does it not run out of battery power?

... and it looks like dogs are allowed on the course
too - yippee! ;)

Hey Mickill Mouse -- Getting to this two days late, so you may not see my response to your question. My fiancee has a Kindle, and he says as long as he keeps the internet connection turned off when he doesn't need it, the Kindle battery lasts for about six months without having to recharge it, and he reads for a few hours a day. I guess accessing the files on the Kindle doesn't take up much juice at all, but the internet connection does.
