A colorful answer. And correct, too.

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Monday, March 12, 2012 - 07:59 am:

Good morning!!

Gas is about $3.59 here right now. It's ridiculous!

I hope you have a great week. Nice slideshow again!

By Thomas Baird (Thomas) on Monday, March 12, 2012 - 07:59 am:

Now, let's not get nit picky about it (the $1.23 9/10) (LOL).

By Marianne Y (Marianne) on Monday, March 12, 2012 - 09:09 am:

Good Morning. A gallon of regular here in Midland is $3.999, $4.099 for midgrade, and $4.199 for premium this morning. It should be noted that this is for the winter grades, which are cheaper than the summer grades, which will add a good 20 cents/gallon. I believe it has gone up at least $1.50/gallon in the last three years. Some people don't realize that when fuel prices rise, the prices of everything you buy rise because it costs the seller more for transportation of their products.

We have spring here in mid-Michigan, with a forecast of 71 degrees for Wednesday! That will be an awesome day, weather-wise! If we get a hard freeze in late April or in May, it could be devastating to crops and the costs of many foods, particularly fruits and vegetables.

By jbuck (Jbuck) on Monday, March 12, 2012 - 09:38 am:

Yes, $3.59 is quite the bargain!!!

By Shirley Waggoner (Shirlohio) on Monday, March 12, 2012 - 10:15 am:

I can remember filling the 20gal. tank on our '72 Buick Electra Limited for $6. And the first time we saw gas selling at $1. per gal. was in Canada in the mid '70s. Shocking! Little did we know.

By Eugene Zuverink (Zube) on Monday, March 12, 2012 - 10:55 am:

In 1949 I was working in a gas station and regular was 28 cents per gallon with full service
and there was no 28.9, where did the .9 ever
come from

By Marianne Y (Marianne) on Monday, March 12, 2012 - 01:07 pm:

I remember the days of gas in the 2x's cents per gallon, back in the early 60's, before I was old enough to drive. Some of the Shell stations in Houston were even involved in "gas wars", where the prices got down to 25 cents per pound. I don't remember when they added the .9 cents per pound, but it's been there for a long time; they seem to think that consumers don't realize that it's really a penny more, sigh.

PS Congratulations, RD in Iowa on your Early Bird for the accurate answer this morning.

By Marianne Y (Marianne) on Monday, March 12, 2012 - 02:51 pm:

Oops, I should have proof-read better. That should have read "where prices got down to 25 cents per gallon", not pound, oops! And I don't remember when they added the 0.9 cents per gallon (not per pound). Silly me!

By Shirley Waggoner (Shirlohio) on Monday, March 12, 2012 - 04:23 pm:

Not to worry, Marianne, that just makes you like the rest of us. ;)
Or you may be thinking along the lines of...a 'pound' of flesh for a tank of gas, which sort of fits today's prices.

By Hollidays (Hollybranches) on Monday, March 12, 2012 - 04:41 pm:

I can remember when I got my 1968 GTO, a big gas hog, and it cost me 10.00 to fill it up, along with a pack of cigs for 25 cents. I used to go to McDonalds and get a hamburger for fifteen cents, fries for ten and a milk
shake for another 15 cents.

All I can say is; I am now sounding just like my Mom and Dad and there is nothing I can do about it.

By Shirley Waggoner (Shirlohio) on Monday, March 12, 2012 - 05:01 pm:

If it'll make you feel any better, Hollidays, you're sounding like me too.:} And I'm probably years before your parents. :]
