Brenda Leigh was out Monday, for an early morning hike around Lake Monocle, near Sault Ste. Marie, and came across these icicles forming just above the water, as the sun was coming up. Of course she had forgotten her camera back at home, but didn't want to pass up capturing them, since they reminded her of Hershey Kisses, so back home she went, snatched up her camera and returned to the lake, hoping that they hadn't melted in the morning sun. Luckily for her and for us, too, they were still there, refracting the morning sunshine and making rainbow reflections on the water below. Sweet...

Thanks Brenda, for taking the time to go back for your camera, to share the simple beauty with us.

If you could just save them.

Hi
It's always interesting to catch water frozen in motion. The fisrt thing I did think of, before even reading the text, was "Hershey's kisses".

I heard on NPR that scientists have found fossilized raindrops. Talk about water frozen in time...

Unusual pictures and very pretty. They would be lovely framed
and hung side by side!

By Richard Wieber (Dickingrayling) on Thursday, March 29, 2012 - 12:52 pm:

I had never seen ice in that shape. Wonderful. Years ago I had a woman come into my jewelry store with a piece of Slavic amber in which there was a air bubble half filled with liquid water. That water was thousands of years old!! She also had a piece with a spider inside, which isn't rare but this bug, according to the UofM was an unknown kind. Wonders of nature.

By Thomas Baird (Thomas) on Thursday, March 29, 2012 - 02:39 pm:

By Alex "UP-Goldwinger" (Alex) on Thursday, March 29, 2012 - 03:44 pm:

Richard...that was also the idea behind the movie, Jurassic Park...mosquitoes encased in amber.

By Mike Schneider (Upmike) on Thursday, March 29, 2012 - 09:51 pm:

Wow! Those pics get the Way-2-Cool award! Nice job and good eye Brenda!

By Jack (Jackfromwarren) on Saturday, March 31, 2012 - 05:37 pm:

Beautiful pictures, Brenda. You have a good eye. They remind me of something Dan Urbanski would have photographed.
