Today's photos are from a newcomer to the Pasty Cam, Shannon Lea Rastello and they're sure to make you smile. These two pups, Macy and Cinder were out in the Keweenaw winter, having a blast, as the ran together, challenged each other and rolled around in the snow. This young Husky and jacket clad playmate are here to remind us to not take life so seriously all the time and never forget how to have fun. With all the new snow UP North, it's time to get out there and enjoy it somehow.

Speaking of Husky dogs and enjoying the snow, maybe this little pup here today will grow up to be on a sled dog team and run in the CopperDog 150 someday. Don't forget that the CopperDog 150 festivities begin today and run through the weekend, beginning in Calumet, going through Eagle Harbor, into Copper Harbor and ending back in Calumet again on Sunday. If you haven't yet watched these mushers and dog teams race by, get out there and do it this weekend. You'll be glad you did.

And another one Alex:

My money is on the Schnauzer!

By Capt. Paul (Eclogite) on Friday, March 2, 2012 - 07:25 am:

Ooohhh, a battle of the quotes on a Friday morning. But I have to ask; who is "Nark" Twain, Mark's long lost relative??? ;-)

Speaking of Husky dogs, this is the last weekend of regular season hockey for Michigan Tech against Colorado College. Everyone in the Keweenaw should be proud of what the team and Coach Pearson has accomplished in just one year. Better days are ahead for Michigan tech hockey!!

By Eddyfitz (Eddyfitz) on Friday, March 2, 2012 - 07:31 am:

I think Nark, may be an undercover DEA dog....

By Donna (Donna) on Friday, March 2, 2012 - 07:50 am:

Awesome pics.....Love the quotes!

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Friday, March 2, 2012 - 07:51 am:

Love that Husky's eyes!! I have a dog who's half lab and half husky. And she has the eyes to prove it, too. One of them is blue and one is brown. She's unique!!

By Kathyrn Laughlin (Kathyl) on Friday, March 2, 2012 - 08:41 am:

Hi
DebS, with that breeding, I'd guess your dog is high-energy and athletic; sounds like a fun pal to have.

I'd bet the husky in this pictures was holding back its strength with the smaller dog, especially in the top picture where they are running.

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Friday, March 2, 2012 - 08:47 am:

Kathyl, she's actually pretty meek until you get her outside. But she's a great listener and doesn't leave her yard, which is something we wanted in a dog. She knows her boundaries without having to put up any kind of a fence or shock collar on her. She loves to fetch her toys, balls, whatever. So much fun and she's just a wonderful pet!!

By Shirley Waggoner (Shirlohio) on Friday, March 2, 2012 - 08:57 am:

Aww, what precious photo 'subjects'!!
Eddyfitz, LOL!!;)

By Therese (Therese) on Friday, March 2, 2012 - 10:11 am:

Mark Twain had a UP brother, Bark Twain, who founded the sport of dogsled racing....

By Marianne Y (Marianne) on Friday, March 2, 2012 - 10:22 am:

Good Morning, and Happy Friday! I laughed out loud at Bark Twain, founded dogsled racing. Good one! :-)

By Kathyrn Laughlin (Kathyl) on Friday, March 2, 2012 - 10:33 am:

DebS, I had an Alaskan Malemute who had the same black and white coloring as the husky in today's pictures. We definitely could not trust her to stay in the yard without physical restraints. We had to put a chain on the gate to the back fence because she learned that, if she reared up on her hind legs and struck the gate with her front legs, she could pop the latch open.

By Pat & Glenda (Gormfrog) on Friday, March 2, 2012 - 10:35 am:

Same principle here on our spelling....we never get lost...people are always telling us where to go!

By David C Cloutier (Dccloutier) on Friday, March 2, 2012 - 10:44 am:

Yeah and I suppose that Mark Twain's UP brother Bark Twain was a tree hugger...

By ILMHitCC (Ilmhitcc) on Friday, March 2, 2012 - 10:55 am:

I admit I'm partial to Huskies myself. I once knew a beautiful Siberian that would make her regular evening rounds to the kitchen door of every restaurant in town! Smart dog.

By dan belo (Djbelo) on Friday, March 2, 2012 - 12:46 pm:

we had a smart cow , knew how to open gate with horns.

By Robert - CO (Halork) on Friday, March 2, 2012 - 12:52 pm:

Speaking of dogsled racing, Ed Stielstra of McMillan will again be representing the UP in the Iditarod, which also starts this weekend in Anchorage.

By Uncle Chuck (Unclechuck) on Friday, March 2, 2012 - 01:40 pm:

Great Pics!

By Janie T. (Bobbysgirl) on Friday, March 2, 2012 - 02:06 pm:

Dan, we had a Guernsey who could unlock gates!

By Thomas Baird (Thomas) on Friday, March 2, 2012 - 02:48 pm:

Cute doggies.

By Alex "UP-Goldwinger" (Alex) on Friday, March 2, 2012 - 03:16 pm:

Opening gates is fine, but show me a dog that can operate a pooper-scooper and I'm buy'n in.

By Janie T. (Bobbysgirl) on Friday, March 2, 2012 - 03:29 pm:

Alex, the closest to that would be a dog who eats his/her own poop! :)

By Just me (Jaby) on Friday, March 2, 2012 - 10:51 pm:

I love the puppy pics!!!!

By Rowdy (Roudymi) on Saturday, March 3, 2012 - 10:28 pm:

I suspect Nark Twain "borrows" clever comments like that one.
