Charlie, please put last week back in--it comes up 'this page no longer exists.' thanks, maija

Maija - Thanks for noticing the glitch. All better now.

If you have not yet ordered your 2005 Pasty Cam Color Calendar, better hurry, they're going fast. It's a beautiful collection of photos honoring our friend Dan Urbanski, who passed away last August. Dan was an enthusiastic supporter of Still Waters in the early days of the Pasty Cam, and we'll always be grateful for the perspective he brought to these pages. The pictures in this memorial calendar are the selected favorites of our visitors.

Good Morning to all! We will be doing the usual
thing outside today, shoveling roofs off. Nice to be outside in the fresh air, no wind, not
snowing, just a pleasant day so far. 4 degrees
sun is out. Have a great day!!!

By Margaret, Amarillo TX on Sunday, January 23, 2005 - 09:53 am:

Well, at least it is snow. It's 21° and feels like 8° and no snow.

Good morning everyone. It's a balmy 16 degrees here...and there is a bright blinding orb in the sky. Oh my, can that actually be the sun? Now where did I put that bathing suit and sunscreen?

Well, I have to get motivated here. Hubby brushed the dogs, and I have fur all over the place. This is the first time that they have shed this early in the year...wonder what that is a sign for?

Hope everyone has a great day. GW, be careful up on that roof ;)

By Missin the UP from NJ on Sunday, January 23, 2005 - 10:25 am:

YIKES! And good morning! Talk about taking your breath away! WHEW!
Great photo, Z-man, captured at just the right moment. Please submit this to a national paper or magazine. It's wonderful and should be seen by more people.

And I was whooshed back to childhood with today's pictures- AGAIN! Thanks!

By NKR Mishawaka IN on Sunday, January 23, 2005 - 10:25 am:

The Z-Man, I cannot believe people really do that. I just had a stroke looking at the pictures. Can anyone say Brrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

By sur5er on Sunday, January 23, 2005 - 10:28 am:

The Z Man, Great pics of the Polar Dive. Brrrr...I am cold just looking at the pics. How deep is the water at the dive site? Would love to do the Polar Dive...at least once.

By NKR Mishawaka IN on Sunday, January 23, 2005 - 10:34 am:

sur5er, go ahead, you can have my turn.

By sur5er, Indiana on Sunday, January 23, 2005 - 11:25 am:

Aaaaaaaaaaah, c'mon NKR, where's your sense of adventure ;)

By Rose on Sunday, January 23, 2005 - 11:36 am:

Z Man: CNN was asking for your best photos of the snow/winter. They were talking about the "emergency" situation out East. They should see this one !!! Let us know if you submit it.

By maijaMI on Sunday, January 23, 2005 - 11:48 am:

Wonderful polar bear dive pictures, Z man. Everyone should look at all of them. The expressions on the faces! (both of the divers and the potential rescuers)

Ah, sweet youth!

By Roudy,Mi on Sunday, January 23, 2005 - 12:05 pm:

Not rescuers, but resuscitaters. The noise of your pores all banging shut at the same time is deafining !

By NKR Mishawaka IN on Sunday, January 23, 2005 - 12:12 pm:

Roudy,Mi - You got that right!

By Frank,,,,Milw...... on Sunday, January 23, 2005 - 12:24 pm:

By Louan-Elk Rapids MI on Sunday, January 23, 2005 - 12:27 pm:

Charlie- I got my Holiday gift pasties and calendar. Thanks to my sister's family in Soo,MI. The pasties were frozen solid and the calendar warmed my heart.
I love the green northern lights picture. Dan surely had an eye for the calm dignity of nature.
I must say, at least one of those pasties did not stay frozen very long. Yummmm!

By Cindy, St. Clair Shores, MI on Sunday, January 23, 2005 - 01:37 pm:

Speaking of pasties . . . now, don't laugh . . . but I recently joined Weight Watchers and I'm on the plan where you count points each day. Well, I've been having a craving for a pasty or even half a pasty. I wondered if there are any other pasty lovers who are also Weight Watchers and know how many points there are in a pasty. I'd be willing to give everything else up for a day . . . or two? If anyone has any idea, I'd really appreciate it.

By NKR Mishawaka IN on Sunday, January 23, 2005 - 01:42 pm:

Hey, the broomball court webcams at Mich Tech are up and running. Yahoo!

By lmr in hancock on Sunday, January 23, 2005 - 02:43 pm:

A pasty is 18 points for a small pasty. Six for each crust and six for the center.

Really nice pictures again. Enjoying them all the time. Goes with our beautiful sunshine in the Copper Country.

By Cindy, St. Clair Shores, MI on Sunday, January 23, 2005 - 02:45 pm:

Thanks, Imr in hancock. That's really not as bad as I thought it was going to be. I appreciate your response.

Does anyone remember the "Seinfeld" episode about George swimming in cold water? Something about shrinkage?

By kosk in Toronto on Sunday, January 23, 2005 - 03:09 pm:

Charlie,

Please save me two calendars. I'm going to
call tomorrow or Tuesday. Because I work in
a children's mental health center, I have a
hard time getting a break during working
hours. Thanks.

Do you, by any chance have local Iditarod or Dogsled races from local cities in the Upper Peninsula? Where are they held? Is there much interest for these races among the local people there? Just curious. :)

By b ib gb on Sunday, January 23, 2005 - 06:19 pm:

By Fran,Ga on Sunday, January 23, 2005 - 06:29 pm:

By Bthecute1, San Jose on Sunday, January 23, 2005 - 06:31 pm:

What does the term "musher" mean? Some kind of food or what one does with the food for dogs? Just curious. :)

By B in G B on Sunday, January 23, 2005 - 07:39 pm:

The term originates from the French word marche, meaning "to march." During the gold rushes, anyone who traveled in the North Country was a "musher," no matter how they traveled.

By Char on Sunday, January 23, 2005 - 09:00 pm:

The U.P. 200 Sled Dog Championship will be held February 18th
and 19th leaving from Marquette, and it is always an exciting
weekend. Hundreds of people line up in downtown Marquette to
cheer the teams on their way. There is also the Midnight Run on
the same weekend. The Tahquamenon Sled Dog Race was held a
couple weeks ago and there are several kennels that offer sled
dog rides to Upper Peninsula visitors.
