Lake of the Clouds, from UP in the clouds! You can't get much higher than this. What an aerial shot this one is from E. Neil Harri. Gives you a totally different perspective of the ridge to the right of the Lake making the area look like a gully of color. The Porcupine Mountain area is Z-Man's stomping grounds and he was doing some tramping around the lake and in the surrounding valley, snapping a few shots of the burgeoning color himself. Looks like the leaves are popping out in Technicolor now. Thanks for the report guys!

The middle of Cliff Drive was at 100% of color yesterday, while either end was more like 75%. Ditto the first few miles off 41, down towards Mt. Bohemia.

I was there Saturday! Of course, I had to quickly check that none of these pictures were mine! They look so familiar! I was worried when I paid my $6 day pass fee that my arthritic knees would now be able to make the climb up to the overlook. I was pretty sure I couldn't do it. Then I was pleasantly surprised to see the new boardwalk with such a gradual slope that it was easily doable! We had beautiful weather and a very enjoyable trip, but no time for an Ambassador tostada pizza! We did get to the Harbor Haus for dinner. I think the most enjoyable spot we revisited was the Powerhouse Falls in L'anse. I could spend all day there with a picnic lunch and a good book. The noise of the falls is pleasantly deafening. Also loved the Silver Falls on the Abbaye Peninsula. They're beautiful in the fall. OK, my students are here for reading, so work commences!

I hate to be a repeater, but what wonderful pictures! I too wish I could get up there to expeience the color firsthand, but life and its business won't allow it. Maybe someday!

Nice Pictures! I am one of the fortunate ones that gets to go see it all in person for the next few days. I am looking forward to a great vacation. My family gets to see my son at Tech, my Mom (a Hancock native)and Dad gets to see their grandson and everyone gets to see the beautiful colors. I just hope the snow holds off a little longer!

Thanks for the unique shot that shows the ridge, I've never seen the lake from that perspective before.

Although we have our own natural beauty here in Florida, we have nothing that even comes close to "God's Country" of the U.P. Only about 12 more months and we will be back home in MI. Thank God.

My wife and I are back from another short trip to the U.P. Along
U.S> 2 there is nothing so lovely as the Cut River gorge near
Brevort. Yesterday the color seemed to be getting close to peak
-- just beautiful! Otherwise, color seemed to be not too close
to peak. That includes downstate too.

I live in California, but my Dad was born and raised in the UP. I think it is so great that I can look at these pictures and know why my Dad loved this area so much. Thank you. I wish my Dad was alive to see this.

I can't wait for tomorrow...my wife and I are headed to Copper Country!!! We go there every year for color tour...last 4 years we have been a week early, sounds like we are right on time this year! Can't wait to get going. What's the cost of gas up there? Not that it matters, we're coming anyway!

Every other year I've been on time for peak color, but this year I was a week early! Better to be a week early than a week late.

Beautiful shots as always on the PastyCam. Unfortunitely, the Dr. and I didn't make it to the Keweenaw this year for the colors. However, next Friday and Saturday we get to drive through an area that is every much equal in terms of a fall color show. Dr. Nat and I have to drive to Salt Lake City for a geologic conference; part of the drive will take us through the Rockies and San Juan Mountains of Colorado and the Uinta/Wasatch Ranges of Utah. Both of us are really looking forward to escaping the "topographically challenged" part of Texas that is Houston.

Be sure to take warm clothing. It is Brrrrr Taters here in the Copper Country. We actually have a slight chance of snow, big chance for rain and even some gale force winds for tonight. Still lovely tho. Gas was $3.19 at Festies this morning and is now $2.99. Go Figure!

With all the cliffs and mountains circling this lake and what looks like a depression in the center, it almost looks like a dormant volcano. However, I must say that the colors are spectacular and thanks to the photographers that bring us these pictures.

Glad these were pics were chosen today,, just called the park rangers for color report as I was debating on Porkies for fall color pics today. Looks like I will wait awhile for Lake of the Clouds, but interesting how aerial shows the east ridge in pic has lost all leaves. Never seen the perspective where you can see Superior's relationship to Lake of the Clouds. My hubby's a pilot,.....the aerial shot has me thinkin :)

btw, small world, when out at Bond Falls yesterday, talked to a man that had just flown over Porkies and taken some aerial shots,,,,, wonder if it was the same person, didn't get his name.
