Most everyone knows there's a bridge joining the Keweenaw's twin cities of Hancock and Houghton across the Portage Canal. Susan Hooker snapped a rare shot of three bridges spanning the very same canal and shared it with us in her Guest Gallery. Of course the extra two spans in this shot are the double rainbow arching over the Portage Lift Bridge. This may have occurred on the same recent day when the Lift Bridge Cam captured the arch from a different angle. I wonder how many folks rushed across the bridge to try to find the pot of gold?

Power House
You can cross over the bridge and find your own pot of riches at Pasty Fest 2005, taking place on July 2nd, in Calumet. The riches I'm speaking of are the free pasties to the first 400 attendees. Only 25 days left to be one of the lucky ones that snag a special coupon, then join us at lunch time as we serve them UP.

Great pics! We, who have the opportunity to live here, should be thankful to see all of Nature's beauty. "WE" are the pot of gold in God's country. Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder!!

By kosk in Toronto on Tuesday, June 7, 2005 - 07:15 am:

There are few things more beautiful than
rainbows. Most of us know about Noah and
the rainbow and the Pot of Gold at the
rainbow's end of the Irish. Anyone know other
stories, myths or legends about rainbows?

By Cindy, St. Clair Shores, MI on Tuesday, June 7, 2005 - 07:24 am:

That pot of gold is worth the 600 mile trip. What a fabulous picture!

By Pasty Fan on Tuesday, June 7, 2005 - 07:31 am:

Hey! I always thought that there was gold at the end of the rainbow, not copper!

By FLYIN da MOONEY on Tuesday, June 7, 2005 - 08:12 am:

There is a pot of gold at each end of that rainbow.......Houghton/Hancock......rainbows observed from a plane are round, appear on clouds, and you can make them happen by your position. So....if you got a little kid on board, you tell them you are going to make them a special round rainbow, then position the plane to make it happen...They love it. See ya on da 4th

By Vicki Rae in Mi. on Tuesday, June 7, 2005 - 08:29 am:

Beautiful picture. We will be bringing our son to Tech in August. I can hardly wait to visit the great UP again.

By Jim, Houghton on Tuesday, June 7, 2005 - 01:58 pm:

Hello,

Great shot! We'll have to get a copy of this up in the the gallery in the new Portage Lake District Library building that will (hopefully) be going up on the waterfront in Houghton. It will be where the old Gundlach warehouse was before it burned. If you squint at the upper rainbow photo, you can see under the bridge to the Ranger and the UPPCO building. The PLDL building will be just to the west (toward the bridge) of the UPPCO building.

Peace

By Lue,Illinois on Friday, June 10, 2005 - 10:23 am:

I wish my dad was here to see the beautiful picture of the bridge. I had to bring him to Illinois and he must have died of a broken heart. He missed his beautiful Copper Country. His name was Edwin Baker. He was an artist.

By Georgie,MO on Sunday, June 12, 2005 - 08:16 am:

Our rainbow in Columbia wasn't as pretty as yours, but that's ok. We're coming to the UP this September. YAHOO!!!! Can't wait!!

By Thomas Baird (Thomas) on Saturday, October 4, 2008 - 09:52 am:
