Mike Schneider was driving down Hwy M-28, heading into work in Marquette last week, when he looked out over Lake Superior and spotted what he first thought were some "neat looking clouds way out there." Then he realized those "neat looking clouds" were really Northern Lights putting on an early morning show. He pulled off the highway, grabbed his camera and got to work, photographing it all to share with us here. In Mike's first photo, you can see a line slicing through the starry sky. He says that is the Space Station traveling towards the east and adds that there was a lot of activity in that morning sky. The second shot shows the city of Marquette all a'glow, trying to rival the dancing Aurora Borealis, as it shines and shimmers above Lake Superior.

In Mike's last picture, the show was in full glory, having overtaken the skyline and lighting up the horizon. Mother Nature sure knows how to put on a spectacular show, you just have to stay up late or get up early to watch her handiwork.

Wow! that's some camera work. I've seen the Northern Lights but never in color, mostly in grayish/whitish 'dancing' drapes. Last time was in Washburn, ND, 30+ miles north of Bismarck.

Nice pics! The third photo reminds me of the Yes concert back in the 70s' to support the album "Tales from Topographic Oceans". What a show.

Wonderful shots. I rarely get to see the Northern Lights as I go to bed too early or get up too late! What a wonderful sight on your drive to work, Mike. Thank you!

The Marquette and Northern Lights would make a super Christmas card, Mike.
