More than half of today's review is from contributors with last initial of 'H'. Name the years which are not.

Good morning!! WOW!! What a race this morning!!

I still love the grandma cooking pasties picture. You wouldn't believe how much she reminds me of my grandmother. There's just a little difference. But honestly, they could almost be twins!!

Have a great Monday everybody!

Thanks for the pasty pictures yesterday. They spurred me on to making a luscious pie pasty for supper. Yes, rutabagas.

UC!!!

You're back!

What's the report on deer camp?

By Shirley Waggoner (Shirlohio) on Monday, November 28, 2011 - 09:27 am:

Speaking of rutabagas, Greta, on the outskirts of a small village where we lived in southern PA, there was a field of rutabagas with an irrigation system which covered them with ice when the temp. dropped, but they could still be smelled miles away. However they are great in pasties.

Welcome back UC!
Well, did everyone survive Black Friday weekend? I found the crowds this year to be extra rude and inconsiderate. I had to pepper-spray 4 people to get what I wanted, and that stuff ain't cheap. :-(

By Shirley Waggoner (Shirlohio) on Monday, November 28, 2011 - 10:59 am:

lol...Alex! Wonder what 'weapon of choice' will be used on today's "Cyber Monday"?

By Thomas Baird (Thomas) on Monday, November 28, 2011 - 01:28 pm:

Some Wintry scenes here. All good pics, though.

The trip was great! Still not the same not being able to stay at LB, Marty and I stayed at the Americinn in Calumet, great rate for the week, great rooms, excellent breakfast, I highly recommend it. Had to eat out all the time of course. The Hut, Whitehouse, Slims Cafe, Jim's Pizza were great, Lac La Belle was totally shut down when we were there :-(

The Hunting- quite dissapointing, not because of the deer, saw alot of doe's and 1 or 2 year old bucks but I believe you have to let them grow.

Most properties were gated off because the loggers don't want ATV'S and 4X4's messing up the roads. We hunted behind our old place at LB, Gratiot Lake, Mt. Houghton, High Rock Bay, Keystone Bay. Not one mishap, Marty didn't even need the extra TP, lol, must of been because I wasn't cooking this time, lol

Alot of the properties around are old place are for sale because the people didn't buy their property from the original lease years ago. Talking to the neighbors, those who didn't lost everything, what ashame.

Copper Harbor, Eagle Harbor and Eagle River seemed to be empty and locked up tighter than a drum.

Marquette was beautiful as ever, won money on the way up and gave it all back on the trip home.

Marty and I were quoting "Grampa Normism's" the whole time in the woods, like, "go ahead you can make it thru that, it's got a good bottom on it" so we shared some laughs too. All in all, a good trip, but different too!

P.S. We also ate an Irish Pub in Laurium and it was fantastic, I would be remiss if I didn't mention that, can't remember the name but it's on the main drag. Toni's was closed for hunting, real bummer, no tarts. Good bakery at Slims though.

Slim's Cafe rocks!

By Hollidays (Hollybranches) on Monday, November 28, 2011 - 04:47 pm:

UC, hats off to you to let them bucks grow. It's kind of like fishing, anything young needs to be able to live for a bit. I think it was the "warm" fall, the rut was late this year.

A lot of changes UP here, some for the good and a lot for the bad.

Glad Marty didn't need the extra TP this time, another first.

Heard that lower Michigan was bad for deer hunting this year. Must be "global warming". :) It has been a very pleasant, snowless, fall.

Love Marquette too, it's the "big city".

Glad you got to visit UC. Maybe someday you'll have your own place UP here.

Uncle Chuck, don't sound like campin' in the boonies to me....bet Marty was really shocked. Glad you had a safe and fun trip! Now, get back to work.;)

By Marianne Y (Marianne) on Monday, November 28, 2011 - 06:41 pm:

Speaking of hunting luck: we saw lots of vehicles headed south, especially from Bridgeport to US 23, that had their gutted deer on them. And, we saw something I've never seen before: a gutted deer on the side of the road. I haven't figured out if it innocently fell off of a vehicle, or if someone heard there was a check station ahead, and they did not have a tag for it, or something.

By jbuck (Jbuck) on Monday, November 28, 2011 - 07:31 pm:

Sounds like a great trip UC!

In fact, it sounds a lot like a trip we made ~ right down to staying at the Americinn and eating at the Irish Times (which was just as good as you had!)

We didn't do any hunting tho, so missed out on all the cool places you went.
