Which years have back-to-back falls?

By Thomas Baird (Thomas) on Saturday, October 22, 2011 - 07:59 am:

2001 + 2002, and great pics as usual.

Actually, *every* year has back-to-back Falls.

Always a wiseguy in every crowd

A word quiz: What is the most annoying, irritating, overused word today? Used mostly by high school teens and those who think they are still in high school.
HINT: adj. begins with an 'a' and ends with 'some'...........:)

It's an awesome day for a word quiz

By RD, Iowa (Rdiowa) on Saturday, October 22, 2011 - 08:45 am:

My pet peeve language irritation is "At the end of the day...". Notice how anymore nobody says "When all is said and done..." or "In the final analysis..." but it is always "At the end of the day..." ??

By Marianne Y (Marianne) on Saturday, October 22, 2011 - 08:47 am:

Good Morning. What is blocking the Portage this morning?

http://www.mtu.edu/webcams/view/motion.html

Edited - well, whatever it was, it is cleared now. It looked like a barge that was sideways in the canal. Have a great day. At least we have a nice weekend, after a less than nice week at least here in mid-Michigan, where we had lots of wind and rain in mid-Michigan.

By Shirley Waggoner (Shirlohio) on Saturday, October 22, 2011 - 10:20 am:

Guess it's too early to say that we're 'at the end of another awesome day'! :>

By JH (Thumbgardener) on Saturday, October 22, 2011 - 10:36 am:

A boat is going under the bridge right now.

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Saturday, October 22, 2011 - 10:43 am:

I think these pictures are totally awesome. And I'm not in high school, nor do I want to be. But that word totally describes so many of these pictures. I think the most overused word used today is "like". I mean like, these pictures are totally awesome:-)

At any rate, they were a joy to look at and totally brightened my day!!

By Marianne Y (Marianne) on Saturday, October 22, 2011 - 10:56 am:

Thank you, Danielle, for the tip of the ship coming into Hancock, with the expected time! I was able to watch it progress through the Portage on Michigan Tech's web cams, complete with the bridge opening, the ship going under, etc. That gives me goose bumps, watching ships traverse the Portage & go under the Lift Bridge. Thanks again. You made my day! :-)

By Shirley Waggoner (Shirlohio) on Saturday, October 22, 2011 - 02:37 pm:

My favorite picture in today's display has to be 'swan river', followed by a very close 2nd....'Smoke'.

By Hollidays (Hollybranches) on Saturday, October 22, 2011 - 04:20 pm:

I think the word "like" is often misused, especially on facebook.:)

Having Vollwerth hot dogs on the grill tonight. Was watching the Travel Channel today and found out that there is a Michigan law prohibiting the use of anything but meat parts in the hot dogs made here. No wonder why the hot dogs are so good. Remember the movie, "The Great Outdoors" with John Candy? No strange parts in these dogs tonight! :)

By Diana P. (Diana) on Saturday, October 22, 2011 - 07:05 pm:

I think "awesome", when used properly, is a word that connotes a lot of excitement about whatever it's describing ... I like that word! :-)

On the other hand, my pet language irritation is having someone, usually in a medical setting, or in a restaurant, ask me "How are we doing today?" when inquiring about how I am doing. "We"?? :-(

By Capt. Paul (Eclogite) on Saturday, October 22, 2011 - 07:42 pm:

Well Diana, maybe you have something in your pocket..... ;-)

By Alex "UP-Goldwinger" (Alex) on Saturday, October 22, 2011 - 07:51 pm:

I just about fell on the floor laughing when I saw this ad for Hot Booties. Get your mine out of the gutter, it's not what you think.

mind, even.

By JH (Thumbgardener) on Saturday, October 22, 2011 - 08:09 pm:

My pet peeve is the "went missing" thing they say now. It seems like the media started it several years ago.

By Capt. Paul (Eclogite) on Saturday, October 22, 2011 - 09:25 pm:

I went missing to the Keweenaw last week after the conference in Minneapolis!!

I actually prefer Hot-Pockets myself, Alex....

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Saturday, October 22, 2011 - 10:29 pm:

I'd love to see WI stay undefeated, but I find myself cheering for MI State. It'd be nice for a Big 10 team to be #1, but when you're from MI, you have to cheer for the MI teams!! Go Spartans!!!!

By Michael Du Long (Mikie) on Saturday, October 22, 2011 - 11:33 pm:

So Precious and I went to Kroger to buy some things. There were like these awesome looking pasties there. We had been at my grand nephews first birthday party and decided to get something that would be like awesome for dinner. Believe me the pasty from Kroger is like the most unlikable unawesome pasty I ever et.

By Pennie (Trolldiva) on Saturday, October 22, 2011 - 11:44 pm:

My daughter is 14 years old and most of her friends are in the 14-17 year old range. Most kids in high school do NOT use the word "awesome" anymore. They like to say stuff like "that's legit" or "that's epic!" Or my personal favorite, "Its got swag". ;)

By Michael Du Long (Mikie) on Sunday, October 23, 2011 - 12:04 am:

Thats like awesome Pennie.

By mickill mouse (Ram4) on Sunday, October 23, 2011 - 06:48 am:

Mikie is a nightowl. LOL...LOL....

In the neck of the world where I work, the highest compliment that
a student can bestow upon something is "Awesomeness!"

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Sunday, October 23, 2011 - 12:33 pm:

Well, Pennie, I'm not into swag. I think it's totally awesome that they are, though:)
