If you're looking for a unique way to view the Autumn colors in the Keweenaw, then a chair lift ride to the top of Mt. Bohemia might be just the ticket for you. That's what Taana Kalliainen and friends did recently, posing once they reached the top, to prove they were there amongst the color show. Taana says she figured she might as well do it, because it's the only way she's ever going to get to the top of that mountain, since there's no way she'd go down on skis or a snowboard. Plus she knew the views from up on top would be fantastic and from the looks of her photos, she was not disappointed.

Taana's last two photos depict some of the fun that was had on their journey up and back down. They created shadow art with their arms and legs, sticking them out until they were in just the right place to form a bear and then what they called a cockroach critter. I like the color you can still see on the ground in the bear shot, especially the red of his eye. Quite creative ladies, thanks for sharing the fun!

Just as a footnote here: Mt. Ripley is also giving chair lift color tour rides, so you have two options to ride and view in the Keweenaw. Get out there and soar to the top!

A gal's weekend, always a good time! I would love to ride that chair lift!

Great pics Taana...and I'm with you...I'd never come down that thing on skis....lol...great pictures!!

A big league star once said "I dont go for any sport that has an ambulance at the bottom of the hill". I did enjoy skiing on the hills in Hubbell and also when we were driven up to Mount Ripley to go on the big hills and in those days we had to learn to use the tow rope and not ride on a chairlift.

LOL...Eddyfitz, or a medevac chopper.

Nice pics!

It's a beautiful ride..although heights bother me, this didn't! You can off at the top and have a picnic, if you desire, or just sit on the grass and enjoy the view. Highly recommend it. Neat pics, thanks!

Thanks Mary!! I'm sure the colors are going to be even better this weekend. The view was unbelievable from up there. If you get the chance, take a road trip for the lift! :)

Taana, it appears you have a 'thing' for high places! Clingman's Dome in May and now Mt. Bohemia...it would've probably been nice if C's Dome had a chairlift, eh? (it doesn't, does it?) Awesome colors and views, but I wouldn't want to meet up with either one of those 'critters' UP there.:D

Hahaha!! I'm not usually bothered by heights, most of the time anyway.

Three of us made the hike up to CD in a half an hour and that's with one stop about half-way. Yeah, a chairlift would have been nice, wouldn't have gotten the great work-out though! :D

Beautiful pictures, I'm really jealous!

Now that we live up here and have the time, I would love to take the lift to the top of Mt. Bohemia and take a look.

I was just up there last weekend! So pretty. I've
never been up there before. It was clear enough that
I was able to see Manitou Island.

I'm jealous too, UC. We won't get there while we're here, but sure am enjoying the colors here in Lake Linden, Calumet, Houghton and Hancock!!

By Capt. Paul (Eclogite) on Friday, October 7, 2011 - 08:31 pm:

Glad that everyone UP there is enjoying the colours. I can say that the colours are just starting in the Ouachita Mountains in eastern Oklahoma, and also just starting around the Kansas City area. We're about 40 miles north of KC tonight and should be a short trip to the Twin Cities tomorrow.

Love the view and colors from up there!
Looks Nice w/ the Irish Colored Sweatshirt as well!!!
